A dark secret

Chapter 4

Mari's POV:

I woke up from the nap I had taken. I felt my eyes sore, remembering I had cried myself before darkness had taken over. I looked at my phone to check the time. It was 6 pm, and I hadn't heard my aunt call me. I looked out the window and her car was parked outside. Parked behind her car was Max's car. Great he is here too. Even more reason not to go down to the kitchen.

"Don't be mean to mate".

Wait.... what was that voice?

"I'm not just a voice. I am you. Your other you, to be exact."

I think I am going crazy. As I was in my thoughts, I smelled something so good. It was like pine trees.

"It's mate. He is here" said the voice that was inside of my mind.

I didn't understand what this voice was telling me. Mate? What is a mate and why does the voice sound so happy?

Max's POV:

I had arrived at Mari's place after school had ended. I wanted the misunderstanding to be cleared out because I only wanted her. No one else, its like the moon goddess had made her for me and just me. I wanted to talk to her, to see her, to be able to make sure she was okay and to make her smile again. I wanted to hug her so badly. As I entered the house, I smelled her scent, chocolate and cinnamon.

I went to her room to check on her to see if she was okay. As I entered her room, she was in her bed curled up in a ball. I noticed that she had been crying, and it hurt me to see her in so much pain. I hated myself for causing her pain.

"Hazel will be locked up for another month" I mind linked Xander

"Yes alpha"

With that over with, I climbed into her bed and hugged her from behind. I didn't realize I had fallen asleep until I heard a car park outside. I got up and looked out the window to see who it was. It was Mari's aunt. I turned around to look at my mate. She was so beautiful sleeping. It still pained me that she had been crying.

I walked down to the kitchen to greet her.

"Why did she leave school?"

"I was waiting for her to eat lunch together, and Hazel came by. and she kissed me out of the blue. and... well.. Mari saw it happen" I whispered the last part. But I knew that she could still hear me.

"You let yourself be kissed by another girl."

I knew she was disappointed at me for hurting Mari.

"Madie, I didn't want to hurt her. You know that she means so much to me that it hurts me seeing her in pain, especially if it's me who caused it."

Mari's POV:

I heard Max saying to my aunt while I was standing by my door debating whether to go down to the kitchen and confront him or go back to my bed and sleep. I heard the sadness in his voice when he was talking to my aunt.

"Go to mate. go comfort mate!"

"Would you please be quiet voice inside my mind so I can think what to do?!" I yelled back.

I was still hesitating about what to do. I finally decided to go to the kitchen and speak to Max.

"Max. Can we talk? Alone"
