A dark secret

Chapter 2

Mari's POV:

We arrived at school with 5 minutes left before the last bell. We both hurried to our class, saying our goodbyes and heading on our way. I was excited that I was turning 16 in a week. My aunt and Max's parents had been talking about throwing me a sweet 16th party. Max's parents took me and my aunt as part of their family. They look after us since it's just me and my aunt.

The school day went by so slowly and I slept through most of the classes. I was ready to go home and sleep all afternoon. Lunch time came and I was starving since I had skipped breakfast this morning. As I was entering the cafeteria, my eyes landed on Max making out with Hazel. Hazel is known for sleeping around with most of the guys in school, no matter what their ages are.

I felt my heart breaking at the scene in front of me. I felt as if I couldn't stand it anymore. I didn't understand why I felt the way I did with the scene I was seeing in front of me. I left as my appetite had vanished as well. I ran out of school and went straight home, not caring that they would call my aunt to let her know I had left the school grounds without permission. Once I got home, I just got into my bed and cried myself to sleep, not caring what time it was.

Max's POV:

Lunch time had started and I was just waiting for Mari to eat together like we've had since her and her aunt moved here. As I was waiting for her to arrive, Hazel came to the table I was sitting at.

"Hey babe, why are you so alone? Do you want company?"

I ignored her as she is known for sleeping with most of the pack. Yup, this high school is all werewolves.

"Go away Hazel, you know I have a mate. The whole pack knows who their future Luna is", I said to her.

"Come on babe, you cant be serious, right? That weak b***h can't be the Luna. Why don't you make me Luna instead" she said to my ear.

I pushed her away as I had smelled that Mari was near, I could smell her intoxicating scent of chocolate with cinnamon. Hazel took advantage that I was distracted to kiss me and hold us like that for Mari to see. I could feel Mari's eyes on me and Hazel, I could feel the pain she was feeling seeing me kissing another girl.

"Go to mate", Zack said

"What do you think I'm trying to do?!" I yelled back to Zack.

I shoved Hazel away with disgust. How dare she go against her Alpha.

"Xander!" I mind linked

"Yes alpha?" came Xander.

"Take Hazel back and lock her up in her room without being able to shift for a month" I said to Xander in my alpha voice to make it clear.

Now I have to go look for Mari and make sure she is okay and does not get hurt. This was going to be a long week for both of us. With her turning 16 in a week and her being kept in the dark regarding her own self. I had been wanting to tell her who she was since I turned 16 so she would know what to expect when she turned 16, but her aunt refused to tell her, that she would tell her before her first shift started.
