Dangerous Meeting

Chapter 1 — Dangerous Meetings The rain slicked streets of the city mirrored the chaos in Ariana’s mind. Every drop that splashed on her umbrella felt like a warning she wasn’t ready to heed. She tightened her grip on the leather strap of her messenger bag and hurried along the alley, hoping to reach her small apartment before the storm became a downpour. Her life had been ordinary—school, part-time work at the café, and evenings spent lost in books or music. That was before Luca Moretti entered her world. Ariana had heard whispers about the Moretti family—powerful, untouchable, feared by anyone who dared cross them. Yet she had never imagined meeting him… until tonight. She turned a corner and froze. The street was empty, except for one figure leaning casually against a black luxury car. The streetlight reflected off his dark hair, and his eyes—dangerously calm—locked onto hers. “You’re late,” he said, his voice smooth, low, and commanding. Ariana swallowed hard. “I—I’m just… trying to stay dry.” He straightened, and the rain ran off his tailored jacket like it couldn’t touch him. “Do you always wander in dark alleys alone?” “I… I usually don’t,” she admitted. Her heart was racing. Why was he here? Why was he watching her? “You don’t belong in this part of town,” he said. “Not alone. And definitely not tonight.” Her pulse quickened, not just from fear but from the way he spoke—like he knew everything about her, like he had been waiting for her. “And you…?” she asked cautiously. “Why are you here?” He smiled, faint, almost imperceptible, but it sent shivers down her spine. “Let’s just say I’m in the business of protection.” Ariana’s brows furrowed. “Protection? From… what?” He didn’t answer directly. Instead, he extended a gloved hand. “Come with me. I’ll explain inside.” She hesitated. Every instinct screamed to run, but something—curiosity, danger, maybe a foolish attraction—made her take his hand. The warmth of his touch lingered longer than necessary, and her stomach fluttered uncontrollably. Inside the car, the interior smelled faintly of leather and expensive cologne. He started the engine without saying another word and drove through the streets with the precision of someone who had memorized every alley, every shortcut. “Who are you?” Ariana finally asked. “My name is Luca Moretti,” he said, his eyes never leaving the road. “And you, Ariana, just became… involved in something bigger than you realize.” Her heart skipped. “Involved? I don’t understand.” “You will,” he replied, his voice calm but edged with a hint of danger. “Right now, you need to trust me.” Ariana didn’t like the way that sounded. Trust him? She barely knew him. Yet… something about the strength in his presence made it hard to refuse. The car stopped in front of a tall, unmarked building. Security cameras tracked their movement, but the doors opened effortlessly as if they had been expecting him. Inside, the air was warmer, but heavy with the scent of power and control. Men in sharp suits nodded respectfully as Luca led her down a long corridor. “Where are we going?” Ariana asked, trying to mask the tremor in her voice. “To meet the people you should have never met,” he said, stopping in front of a large office. He opened the door slowly, revealing the dimly lit room and a man seated behind a desk. “Vincenzo,” Luca said softly. The man looked up, his eyes sharp, dangerous, but his gaze softened slightly when it fell on Luca. “Ariana, this is my father,” Luca said. “He needs to know you’re here.” Ariana’s knees almost buckled. This was the Moretti family? Real power, real danger, all in one room. Vincenzo stood, tall and imposing, but his eyes rested on her with something she couldn’t place. Curiosity? Interest? Caution? “You’ve met danger,” Luca said under his breath. “Yes,” she whispered, her pulse wild. Vincenzo studied her for a moment before speaking. “You should not have come here.” “I didn’t know where else to go,” Ariana said honestly. “You belong somewhere safe,” Vincenzo said. “Not here. Not in our world.” Luca placed a hand lightly on her shoulder—not a touch of ownership, but a silent promise. “And that’s exactly why I’m here. No harm will come to her.” The words hung in the air, heavy with tension. Ariana felt the weight of them, and something inside her shifted. Luca’s gaze met hers, stormy and unyielding. “I’ll make sure nothing touches you.” Her heart thumped—not from fear this time, but from something new. Something dangerous. Something she couldn’t name. That night, Ariana went home with more questions than answers. Yet one thing was clear: her life had just changed forever. And Luca Moretti… he was not someone she could ignore.
