After the tumultuous events of the day, it was abundantly clear to Leo that any arrangement between him and Gabrielle was no longer tenable.
She lay nestled against his chest, his fingers gently stroking her hair, and for a moment, Leo thought she had drifted off to sleep.
“Today… I was scared,” Gabbie confessed quietly.
“I would never let anyone hurt you,” Leo replied firmly.
“I wasn't scared for myself. I was scared for you,” Gabbie revealed, her voice filled with concern.
“Scared of what?” Leo was silent for a moment, and then he asked softly.
“Losing you,” Gabbie replied honestly.
“Our agreement… It doesn’t matter anymore, does it?” Leo asked softly.
“Even if it did, I couldn’t leave you,” Gabbie responded with conviction.
“Me neither,” Leo said, his voice stead
