GABRIELLE POV
Gabrielle was unsure about whether to agree to Leo’s deal. Why would he spend millions on her only to let her go like that? It didn't make any sense.
She heard a knock on her door once again. Opening it, she found a woman standing there with three huge suitcases filled with clothes.
“What’s that?” Gabrielle asked.
“Mr. Leo requested these clothes be brought here,” the girl said politely.
“Sure, come on in,” Gabrielle exclaimed, swinging the door open.
“The shoeboxes are still on their way. For now, I'll organize your clothes in the closet,” the girl said.
“You can let me do it,” Gabrielle offered.
“I'm sorry, but Mr. Leo specifically asked me to do it,” the girl refused.
“I’ll take a stroll first, then I’ll come back,” Gabrielle mentioned before stepping out of the room.
Gabrielle exited the room and began exploring the house, which featured a spacious corridor with over ten doors. As she descended the stairs, she noticed a massive chandelier hanging in the center of the living room. It seemed like nobody was home.
As she entered the garden, she spotted a bench, decided to sit down, and took a moment to close her eyes and inhale deeply.
“This spot is definitely my favorite area in the house,” a man’s voice said, causing her to open her eyes.
“By the way, I’m Maurizio, your future father-in-law.”
“It’s great to meet you! I’m Gabrielle,” she greeted, introducing herself.
“I hope you have a great time here and that you’ll make a wonderful wife for my son.”
“I hope so, too,” Gabrielle said with a slight nod.
“What’s your story, Gabrielle?” Maurizio asked.
“What do you mean?” she inquired.
“How did you end up at that auction, Gabrielle?”
“I came there to make my dream come true, Mr. Maurizio,” she chuckled.
“Just call me Maurizio. So, what’s your dream, Gabrielle?”
“I applied to work as a model after finding the agency online. They came to my house, even though my parents were against it,” she said, telling her story.
“Listening to our parents is important, Gabrielle.”
“Now I realize. I really wish I had listened to them, Maurizio,” Gabrielle admitted.
“It’s a learning experience, Gabrielle.”
“My parents were never close to me. They never had faith in my dreams.”
“Be a different mother, Gabrielle,” Maurizio suggested.
“I never wanted to get married, let alone be a mother,” Gabrielle said.
“You'll be happy here. Leo can be tough, but you’ll adjust,” Maurizio assured, giving her two friendly pats on the back.
“What kind of closeness is this with my husband?” Letizia, a madwoman, asked as she stepped into the garden.
“There’s no intimacy; we were simply having a conversation,” Maurizio stood up for Gabrielle.
"I saw you placing your hand on this person’s back. It was like this..." Letizia stumbled over her words, pointing accusingly.
“From what?” Gabrielle asked, her voice rising.
“Lower your voice. You’re inside my home,” Letizia responded.
“I’ll only respect you if you show me respect,” Gabrielle said, gazing into her eyes.
“I have no idea what was going through my son’s mind when he chose you,” Letizia muttered.
“That’s enough, Letizia. The girl wasn't doing anything,” Maurizio intervened.
“What’s going on here?” Leo asked, arriving on the scene.
“There isn’t much going on, son. Use this opportunity to educate your fiancée on proper etiquette,” Letizia suggested before walking away.
“You guys can have some privacy,” Maurizio said, also leaving.
“Leo, dealing with your mom is going to be a real challenge,” Gabrielle remarked.
“It’s just temporary. After the honeymoon, we can head back to our house, Gabrielle.”
“By the way, have you thought about the proposal I brought up earlier?” he asked.
“I am uncertain. How long will this charade last, Leo?”
“A few months, Gabrielle.”
“Okay, I’ll take it,” Gabrielle agreed.
“Great!”
“I need to ask you for something, Leo.”
“You can say it, Gabrielle.”
“I need a phone. It’s been almost five days since my parents last heard from me, and I believe they will soon become worried,” Gabrielle asked.
“Sure, I’ll take care of it,” Leo responded.
“Thank you,” Gabrielle said, then left the garden.
“Gabrielle?” Leo called out to her, catching her attention as she turned to look at him.
“Yes?”
“Tonight, I want you to wear the blue dress hanging in the closet,” Leo instructed, and she left the garden, making her way back to her room.
He believes he can solve this puzzle, but I’ll prove him wrong, Gabrielle thought.
The blue dress wasn’t unattractive, but it wasn’t the one she wanted to wear. She had her eye on the red dress that had really caught her attention.
Even if she had only been here a short while, she would still be true to herself. And as for Leo's toxic mom, she would have to accept her.
