Owen's hand trembled with rage. "Celine, you've gone too far! Didn't anyone ever teach you some basic manners?"
I wiped my face and glanced at Lydia's smug expression. Did she really think Owen would always have her back?
Three months earlier, my identity as the true Blake heiress had come to light. Lydia had been kicked out of the Blake family immediately, but since I had refused to return, the family hadn't made the news public yet. Still, anyone with the right connections already knew the truth.
Lydia spoke softly, "It's fine, Owen. Don't stoop to her level. Let's keep having fun."
Owen looked irritated. "Celine, look at her. Aren't you going to apologize to Lydia?"
My ears rang. I raised my hand to hit him back, but Owen clamped a hand around my wrist.
"Celine, are you asking for trouble? You keep going against me. Aren't you afraid I'll really walk away and leave you with nothing?"
My gaze went cold. "Owen, I don't want anything from you anymore. And I don't want you either. We're over."
Owen's breathing hitched, but with Lydia still there, he quickly masked it. "So you're really determined to burn this bridge? Lydia is the only woman I love. You? You were nothing more than a fling."
Lydia could barely contain her excitement. She might have lost her title as a wealthy heiress, but at least she still had a man who loved her. Once she married Owen, she would tell him everything.
For now, the Hart family still had no idea what had happened to the Blake family.
I tore my wrist from Owen's grip and slapped him hard across the face. His cheek swelled instantly, and his eyes filled with rage.
'I'm the heir to the Hart Group. Who does Celine think she is to make a scene in front of me?'
"Owen, I hope you enjoy your newlywed bliss and get everything you've ever wanted. I hope you marry the perfect match your family picked for you."
Lydia looked uneasy, clearly terrified that Celine might say something that would give her away. She quickly stepped in. "Celine, you should go. We won't bother you anymore."
I exhaled slowly. I couldn't spend another minute in this miserable place.
But Owen caught my hand. "I'm not finished with you yet. Don't go."
I shot him a mocking look. "Owen, you're still hanging onto your ex. Aren't you worried about upsetting your fiancée?"
Owen glanced at Lydia. The smugness had already slipped from her face. After a long moment, he released me and watched me walk away.
The moment I stepped outside, a light drizzle started falling. The chauffeur hurried over and raised an umbrella over me. He noticed the bruise on my face and was about to ask about it when Owen came storming after us and shoved him away. Then he punched him hard.
I quickly helped the chauffeur back onto his feet.
Owen's eyes blazed with anger. "Celine, you haven't even been away from me for long, and you're already chasing after some aged man? Do you even know who he is? He's the Blake family's chauffeur. He probably used that fancy car to lure a shallow young woman like you!"
'I come out here with an excuse to smooth things over with her, but she's in the arms of some aged man?'
My expression hardened. "Owen, apologize to him right now, or you're going to have a real problem on your hands."
Owen was livid. "What the hell are you talking about? You want me to apologize to him? Celine, you're so obsessed with money that you might as well become my mistress!"
I finally lost my patience. "Are you blind? I'm the true heiress of the Blake Group. And you want me to be your mistress?"
Owen paused, then laughed mockingly. "Celine, have you lost your mind? Sure, you and Lydia share a last name, but that doesn't mean you share the same life. Don't tell me you're actually going to spin a lie this outrageous."
