CHAPTER NINE“We shall be on English soil this afternoon,” a voice came from behind Elvina. She turned swiftly. The Honourable Peregrine Howard was standing beside her, a telescope to his eye. She felt her heart sink. For the last four days she had enjoyed the voyage more than she could ever explain in words. It had been rough. Not rough enough to be dangerous or to inconvenience herself or Lord Wye in any way, but it had kept Lady Cleone in her cabin and it had made her brother spend his time with his feet up and a brandy bottle beside him.
