SERAPHINA'S POV
I never imagined a day would come when I'd have to send my son a thousand miles away. Or that it would come this soon. I thought I had until college, at least. But life had a cruel way of rushing separations upon you.
I spent a week recovering from the gunshot wound, and another entire evening trying to explain this sudden, special "vacation" to Daniel. Thankfully, Kieran had clearly spoken to him first. I had to give him credit—this conversation was a vast improvement over the last one. At least this time, I didn't see that heartbreaking fracture in Daniel's eyes.
His only concern was simple, and it cleaved me in two: Could I come with him?
It took everything in me not to lie to those hopeful blue eyes.
