Chapter 4: What if it was actually Emma?

1022 Words
Leo POV — Three Years Later It had now been three years since Emma had left me. Even though I could not believe it, and I was always amazed at the thought that she actually left me, I still loved my life anyway. After all, she was the one to be blamed. Even though I was the one at fault and I was the one who made her life a living hell, nobody actually cared about that. Instead, they continued to blame her, claiming she ran away with my daughter. And of course, I continued to play the pity card, making sure that everyone would pity me. If they got to see her ever, they would always drag her for it. I knew that one day she would come back to me. I knew for sure that Emma could not leave me for good, and she would come back begging me, and I could not just wait for that day to come. And even though I had always sung it to myself and reminded myself that I was better off without Emma, I couldn't help but think about her here and now. I missed her. Even though I was not supposed to miss her. Even though I hated my marriage with her. Even though I got sophisticated and tired of her. She had always been there for me for over ten years. Yet I got so tired that I could not bear the thoughts of being around her. It became so suffocating. But still, I did not want to be around her. I found every reason to cheat. Maybe she would give up on us, but she never did. Only for her to leave me just because of an unreasonable matter. It felt like a dream to me because I never expected her to leave just because of how I treated our own daughter. Even though I loved Lily with all my heart, I knew that one day she would still complain to me. As I sat in my office, my leg crossed, watching my secretary as she brewed my coffee for me, I couldn't help but feel enticed and dislodged towards her. I quickly shook my head again. “No, I won't do this. I have done more than enough. And of course, this new secretary should not see me as someone like that.” She soon served the coffee for me on my table and dropped a document with it. “This is the new company we are trying to get to sign a contract with us so we could work with them. I heard it is a huge company and the owner is a mysterious woman,” she said as I opened the document. Instantly, the name gave me a chill. Something about the name ‘L.’ It felt like I had known this person just by staring at it. I swiped through all the pages, yet there was nothing familiar about this person. Then I let out a sigh of relief. I knew for sure that Emma would come back. The determination she gave me when she looked at me in the eyes was more than enough proof for me to know that she was going to come back for me, and she was going to make life miserable for me. She had clearly told me that she owned 50% of my property, and I knew that was just a reminder to tell me that she would always come back for what belongs to her. And of course, I was not ready to give it back. I looked at my secretary and flinched the paper at her. “Why are we trying to get deals from people? Why are we the ones begging them? Why can't they come and beg us instead?” I yelled at my secretary as she picked up the paper and arranged it. “Because we are losing clients. We are losing people to these same companies. We also need to get them by our side or else the company can crumble any moment.” She said as I felt angry and slammed my hand on the desk. “Who is this stupid person who is stealing everyone from me? It is not possible. Nobody has an idea as good as mine. This idea was literally brought up by my wife. Nobody else can ever orchestrate something as similar as hers.” I yelled at my secretary as she opened a page in the documents. “I'm sorry, but this lady's plans are just like yours. Even better.” She muttered, making me angry. “Who could this person be? Who could this person possibly be that is threatening me? Prepare a meeting. I want to see this person. I want to know who she is. Instantly.” I yelled. She gently dropped the document on my legs and quickly rushed out. But my gaze was too fixed on the front cover of the documents. The name ‘L.’ Who could it possibly be? Who could want to steal my own ideas? If I realized that this person was actually capable, I would immediately file for defamation. This is a direct copy of all my wife's identities, and I would not let that happen. But just as I took my seat back, something stung in my mind. “What if it was actually Emma?” I could not help but chuckle. “She can never be the one. What would possibly bring her back to my life again?” I muttered to myself while hoping inside of me that she wasn’t the one. How miserable would my life be if she was to return? What would everyone see me as? All the lies I had to tell everyone just because I wanted to be pitied and label Emma as the bad one? What about lily? What if she comes back for her 50% share of my property? Without waiting to find out I brought of phone and called my secretary. “Set up a meeting with the new company as soon as possible!”
