“How did this happen?”
Damien’s voice was calm, but Ethan could hear the anger and fear hidden beneath it.
“There was an accident on the road ahead of me,” Ethan explained quickly. “Traffic came to a complete stop. Before I could find another route around it, the taxi was gone.”
Damien closed his eyes briefly and took a slow breath. He knew Ethan wouldn’t intentionally lose track of Evelyn. But knowing that did nothing to ease the growing fear in his chest.
“I’m driving towards your location now,” Damien said after a brief pause. “Do you have the license plate number?”
“Yes, boss. I wrote it down. I’ll send it to you immediately.”
