Lydia returned to the hospital room and found Evelyn asleep. Celeste was nowhere in sight. Feeling relieved, she quietly headed into the bathroom to freshen up. After changing into the T-shirt and shorts she had bought, she stepped back into the room.
Her eyes immediately fell on the empty bed beside Evelyn's. A smile spread across her face when she realized Evelyn had asked the hospital to prepare it for her so she wouldn't have to spend the night on the hospital couch.
She walked over to Evelyn's bed and carefully checked her to make sure she was alright. After confirming everything was fine, she picked up the remote from the bedside table, climbed onto the empty bed, and switched off the lights. The room fell into complete darkness. Within minutes, she drifted off to sleep.
