Lena finally tells Elias part of the truth.
The creatures have a name.
The Ascended.
They were once human.
Or something close enough.
The survivors believed the Collapse was caused by disease.
It wasn't.
It was evolution.
An experiment designed to make humanity stronger had succeeded too well.
The Ascended could survive radiation.
Extreme temperatures.
Poison.
Starvation.
They could heal from injuries that would kill ordinary humans.
But the greatest change was inside their minds.
They could communicate through electrical activity.
Thought to thought.
Memory to memory.
They could feel one another.
And eventually...
they stopped seeing themselves as individuals.
They became one consciousness.
Lena tells Elias there may be only a few thousand ordinary humans left on Earth.
Elias asks how she knows.
Lena doesn't answer.
Instead, she gives him a map.
One location has been circled.
SECTOR 7.
An Eden facility.
Abandoned for more than a century.
"You need to go there," she says.
"Why?"
Elias was lost, the Haven was their
refuge, their hope and home, why would
he leave ?
"Because that's where the answers are."
"What answers?"
Lena looks at him.
"The answers about your sister."
Elias goes still.
He hasn't heard Mara's name from another person's mouth in years.
Lena whispers:
"Your sister didn't die."
