Edrick’s POV
When she said she needed the bathroom, I let her go. I watched her walk away, slowly at first, then faster, as if she could not wait to get away from me. I told myself to ignore it. I told myself it was nothing.
My phone rang.
Adrian.
Why is he calling me when he is supposed to be here?
I stepped aside and answered.
“Are you at the gala?” he asked.
“Yes. Where are you?”
“Delayed flight, but I'm on my way. Listen. You have to be careful. The leader is here.”
My chest tightened. “Who?”
“I do not know his real identity. I only know he blends in. He looks like everyone else. But he is here. I am sure of it.”
