He tucked back into his seat, knowing that if he couldn't get to her through the door, then he would have to break through it. Hmph! Let's see how you handle this, Sophia. You managed to outsmart me before. Taking advantage of me and my wealth. Now let's see who's smarter now, he mocked inwardly. The next second, a group of security guards came into the room. They were panting and filled with anger, like they could tear down the place. “Nobody moves!” The leader roared, stepping out from the group. “A rare diamond has been stolen!” He growled, casting a glare on everyone. “We're here to search for it!” He continued, “Put your hands out in the open and remain still.” Jason smirked and brought his hands out, he looked towards Sophia as she stood nervous, her confidence fading. “It seems you've left the gold-digging business for diamonds eh, how delightful?” She stood still and stretched her hands out. What scheme are you planning, Jason? She asked herself. Her poise slowly faded as she saw the disturbing smile he wore. Why does he feel so comfortable and happy about everything? Her eyebrows furrowed, feeling intensely baffled. A female guard walked towards her, searching every inch of her. And after a long moment of discomfort, they found the diamond in her bag. Her heartbeat increased rapidly and it felt like her whole world had just imploded. Her body felt numb as she trembled, cold sweat rolling down her sides. With a shaky voice, she said, “How… How did it get in here? It wasn't me, I didn't do anything, you have to trust me.” Jason's mocking laughter erupted as he saw how rapidly her expression changed from a grim reaper to the reaped in the blink of an eye. The female guard didn't hesitate to arrest her, quickly pulling her hands back, while handcuffing her. “She looks so innocent, yet cunny.” a bystander cursed from behind. “You're in big trouble, girl.” The female officer muttered. Sophia shuddered with great fear, what had she gotten herself into? And how did it get into her bag? She wracked her brain hard. Her eyes widened when she realised those annoying guys from earlier. It must have been them. How did she not see that? But it was too late for her now. Suddenly, a deep growl echoed around the room, causing everyone to turn towards it. “Stop!” Liam commanded, filling the air with tension. “Release her, immediately!” “But sir, she–” the female guard went shut, feeling terrified, Liam's gaze was brimming with danger. Sophia looked bewildered, she had never seen Liam this way before. He looked scary but at the same time attractive to her. Maybe it was because his anger wasn't directed at her at that moment. As she heard the handcuff click behind her, she felt a sense of relief, massaging her wrist gently. Jason furrowed his eyebrows, gritting his teeth hard, “That girl is a thief and she needs to be punished for her crimes!” His frame vibrated vigorously. “That's enough!” Liam responded, “She stole nothing from this building.” Jason's forehead contorted and he yelled, “And how sure are you? We all saw the diamond come out of her bag, didn't we?” Everyone around him murmured and nodded in agreement. They wouldn't let her go away so easily, even if she was being defended by the mysterious man. Liam's eyebrows twitched when he heard their protest. If he protected her with his power, it would ruin his reputation, he had to think fast. The paparazzi were almost making their way inside the room, and the VIP guards couldn't hold them any longer. The murmurs increased as he paused, and a small grin played on Jason's lips. Liam ignored him and stepped closer to Sophia. He held her hands, feeling how sweaty they were and he continued. “Well, I'm sorry to burst your bubbles, everyone.” His gestures were calm and calculated. “I own this place and everything within it.” “Including the diamond you claim she stole.” His gaze was now filled with hope and excitement. Everyone was bewildered, their eyes widened and their jaws dropped. The building contained a vast collection of ancient and rare artifacts. How could it belong to one man? They murmured within themselves. “The diamond was a gift to her. I guess she must have forgotten!” He lied. “Right, babe?” He asked her softly, and she nodded positively, desperation lingering in her eyes. Her heart skipped a beat as the words rolled out of his mouth. She didn't know when she nodded in agreement. Jason was flustered, he couldn't even think of anything, except for the fact that a man had just held his wife passionately right in front of everyone. How could she do that to him, ignoring him completely, even after all he did for her? She had betrayed him right in the open, in front of everyone! But he couldn't let it happen, he couldn't let his pride get stepped on. He had to expose Liam and tell everyone his little secret. “Let them in!” He commanded the guards to release hold of the paparazzi. And they all swarmed in, trying to capture every moment. “Sophia, I see you've found a new guy.” He said mockingly, “Or should I say a new guy found you?” “Did you ever wonder why I married you and why I wanted to leave?” He said, gesturing around for all to hear. “Did you wonder why a new guy came into your life immediately, searching for the same thing I couldn't find?” “What are you talking about?” Sophia yelled at him, her voice shaky, and indistinctive whispers increased from the crowd. She threw her gaze at Liam and she saw his eyebrows twitch. His grip on her subconsciously tightened. “Liam, do you mind telling everyone, what you were doing around my mansion on the same night I proposed a divorce to her?” He said, audibly. Liam's grip tightened again, and this time, he couldn't hide his frustration. Sophia's eyes became itchy and tears began to well up, she was trying so hard not to think negatively about Liam. Jason stepped forward, unable to hold down his anger, “Now tell me!” He roared, “Was the accident she had with you natural or contrived?” Everyone gasped, while the camera shutter sounds filled the room, followed by blinding flashes, everyone was expectant for an answer. “Tell her the truth. Why are you helping her?”
