Having lost consciousness on the Beauchamp estate, I was befuddled to wake up in a setting I’d fought so hard to escape, the boudoir that had been offered by the older Knight and had served as my sole accommodation for the last month. The hows and whys of this perplexing turn of events demanded an extended explanation for the same, but there seemed not a single soul to entertain me, and so I decided on summoning Mary. Encumbered by the pain that rose from the bruise that I’d received just a few hours ago on my abdomen, I struggled to cry for the handmaiden, who, as I reckoned from her unfailing dedication to Kai, would’ve intentionally kept herself away from this bedchamber on her prescient master’s instructions, the man who wasn’t too fond of that benevolent lady’s tête-à-tête with me.
