Chapter one

921 Words
Seventeen Years Later… My alarm clock is going crazy, why is it so loud? Emma wakes and tosses her pillow at the clock which does nothing to stop the ringing sound coming from the torture device. “Emma! Stop attacking your clock and get your little butt down here, or you won’t get to see your Nineteenth Birthday.” “Mum please, I’m sick.” Emma shouts down to her mother, but in reality, there has never been a day that she has fallen ill, not even a cold. So that excuse would not work. With a little moan the grumpy teen crawls out of her very comfortable bed and turns off her alarm. “Happy? I am up!” Emma shouts as she heads to get her breakfast. Mornings are not her favourite. “We have that meeting about college this Morning, so you need to hurry, I have that nice outfit hanging up in your wardrobe. Please do your hair sweetie, maybe a plat or bun?” “Fine Mum, I will make sure not to look like a homeless person, got it. Look Mum, I love you, but there will be a time when you cannot do everything for me, I need a little independence at eighteen, don’t forget it will not be long until the big nineteen hits.” “Yes Baby, but until then your Farther and I will bug you, because we don’t have long left to annoy you.” “Cheers Mum.” And with that Emma heads up to her room and gets ready for school. After her bathroom routine is finished Emma hunts for the so-called outfit. And there it is, in all its glory. With a little groan the hanger is pulled out and placed on the bed. It consists of a pencil skirt in black, tights that look skin coloured, Black Pixi heels with a pointed toe, a fitted red blouse that will show all my curves, “what is my mother thinking?” There is also a short black jacket. The outfit looked smart, Emma put het hair in a high ponytail, it has darkened over the years, no longer the golden blond it was, now it is more of a bronze colour with flecks of gold throughout. After applying some Red lippy that her Mum left out and a little mascara, she was ready. Driving to school was quiet, the roads were always like this, its as if nobody else lived out here, which I guess they do not. The house is really secluded and there are not many houses until you hit the town. We moved here a few months ago so that my Dad could retire, he worked hard as a builder, but he is in to much pain now to do that, but he volunteers at a shelter fixing it up and helping where he can, my Mum, well she is a Nurse at the Doctors surgery in town, it is a vast improvement from when we lived in the city, the hospital that my Mum worked was really busy, which meant that I hardly saw her, and when I did she was to tired to do much. This place is small, but I kind of like it here. The school is tiny, but the kids are smart. Everyone keeps to their groups, nobody is cruel, the “popular girls” always say hi, they are all stunning which I thought would make them mean, but that is not the case. I have not made many friends yet, just a sweet Girl called Grace, with bright red hair and porcelain skin, you would think she was a Doll. Her emerald eyes are always bright, and her smile seems fixed in place a lot if the time. We pull up to the carpark, spotting Grace I get out and say goodbye to my Mum, so she doesn’t say anything weird. I love her to bits, but Mother Dear loves to embarrass me, and Dad thinks that it is hilarious. Grace runs over to me all excited and puffing her cheeks out, letting out a breath she finally tells me what has got her out of sorts. “Emma we are going to the mansion, there is a big town party, everyone wants us to come. There will be food and a carnival, people are doing different stalls and then there will be a band playing in the evening on Friday. It will be amazing. How can I say no? the rest of the town doesn’t really socialise with us, maybe this is our chance to change that. “Count me in, I will run it by Mum, but I’m sure it will be fine.” I am then pressed into a hug, and Grace whoops loudly. Walking to my appointment I cannot help but smile, until I bump into Alex Clark, he is the Head of the Math club, but you wouldn’t think it, with dark hair and hazel eyes, huge arms that you just want to cling to, a jaw that you want to lick. Not that like him or anything. “Hey, Emma, isn’t it? Are you headed to the office?” I just smile like an i***t, “Yes she has an interview.” Grace answers for me. “Well good luck, I think you may need to talk in there though Emma.” He says, grinning at me. With a smile on my very red face, I walk towards the Heads office.
