The interview went well. However, I now need to walk around in this “grownup” outfit for the rest of the day. It is lucky that I have a half day today, two free periods this afternoon, so I can just read in the library, or go to town and wait for my mum to finish. Either way, I can get some course work finished, which gives me some brownie points to use so I can go to the event with Grace.
I decided on the library as it is quiet, almost everyone is at the hockey game so I can have some quiet time.
Tonight is my night helping at the pet rescue centre, I feed the cats and walk the dogs. It is my way of doing some good. I love animals, so they get a lot of love from me. I used to work at an old people’s home in the city, but there does not seem to be one here.
The older generation are amazing, their stories make me laugh, and in turn I make them smile, I miss that the most.
When I get seated, there is a weird smell in the air, I have been smelling some strange things lately. It is like meat, with a hint of mint. It cannot be the Kabab shop, that is in town, I can also smell flowers, but I’m inside. This is so weird, my hearing has been acting up also, it is like everyone is shouting. A call to the Doctor is needed, I think.
My birthday is four weeks away, which seems ages. I have no idea what my family has planned, but a drink at a club would be great. However, I doubt it will happen. Three months until I start college, becoming a Vet is my dream, or a veterinary nurse would be my second choice if the other is too hard, but I’m smart, so it will be fine.
My mum picks me up with her is a change of clothes and trainers that I need for the Rescue centre, it is not far, but she likes to make sure I am safe.
“Did your Interview go ok? Did they like the outfit? Are you going to that college? Cambridge isn’t far from here,” Wow
“Ok, calm Down Mother, yes it went well, I have no idea what they though about the outfit and yes, it is the college I want to attend.”
Thankfully we arrive at the Rescue, I practically run from the car. Yes, she cares, I understand that, but sometimes I feel smothered.
I change in the staff Toilets, the dogs are already barking like mad, they know it is time for their walks. I get to see my Girl; she is a huge German shepherd with only one eye, and a scar running across her face. Nobody can get her to come out of her pen, but I can, for some reason this beautiful beast loves my company. I head in and she is there wagging that bushy tail, her tongue hanging out. I call her Star, because she brightens up my night. We have a little hug, and play for a few minutes, I refresh her water and slip on a harness. Star bunny hops in excitement, I have to walk her alone because she isn’t a fan of other dogs.
It is about half an hour before the walk ends, I still need to feed the cats and walk the smaller dogs, they get to go altogether.
Once Star is settled, I head over to the cats, there are some kittens that have just arrived that I cannot wait to cuddle. The bowls get set out and filled, Katie the night worker helps me carry them to the pens. I see the kittens in a large Crete, so I head over. However, they all run to a corner and hide, they hiss and spit at me. Katie is shocked, she tells me that they love to be held. The other cats then start hissing and spitting at me, I do not understand, animals usually love me. Katie takes over from me, and I go to walk the dogs. They still love me. All their bowls are filled with water. Their feed time is earlier. I pop all the little ones in their harnesses, each one getter overexcited. One of the males decides to be a little too excited.
We walk for a half hour, the same as Star. Which gives their little legs a workout. I wish there were more time to spend with them, but I am only allocated a few hours.
I pop to see Star before heading out, tears filling my eyes. Hopefully, Mum will let me take her one day, and then she will have company when I go to college. I wave to Katie, then head out to my mum, who is waiting for me. I told her about the cat incident, but I don’t get a response.
The drive home is really weird, no questions or anything. My dear mum must be tired, I will leave the asking her about Star and the Event until morning.
