“COME ON IN AND MAKE yourselves comfortable,” Mr. Strader told them as he ushered them into his office. They took seats around the conference table and waited for him to begin.
“As you know, Max didn’t have any living relatives,” Strader began, “so his estate is pretty straightforward. Most of it goes to you, Bella. He did, however, put some things in place recently that I need to make you all aware of.”
He slipped on his reading glasses, opened the file in front of him and began to read aloud.
“To my goddaughter, Isabella Rose Thomas, I leave the bulk of my estate, with the following exceptions:
The sum of one hundred thousand dollars, set aside in a trust for Charlie Thomas, so that the young man may attend the college of his choice when the time comes.
