Makenna's POV
After I told Adrian what I was doing he insisted on going with so I left Austin a note.
I don't wanting him to worry, but I don't want him to come either.
I then texted my dad to inform him on where I was going. That way just in case things went wrong he'd know where I was, although I doubt Allen would try anything.
We got in my truck and I drove, neither of us saying a word.
There was nothing to say and we both knew it.
Adrian knew what I wanted to do.
I knew he didn't want me to.
But I can't let Allen think he can walk all over me. I can't let him think he's in control, especially of my mate.
"You said there was a note. What did it say," Adrian asked after two hours of silence.
I pulled it from my pocket and let him read it.
Makenna,
I hope you don't mind, but I dropped by to see how my son was doing.
The guards were all very nice and let me in with no problems. I just wanted to see how Austin is doing but it seems as if I came at the wrong time. I hope you can drop by sometime, I'd love to discuss a few things with you.
Until we meet again,
Allen
"Makenna. This isn't a good idea," Adrian said," he is pretty much inviting you on to his land. This doesn't feel right."
"I know Adrian. That's why I have a back up plan," I said, glancing in the mirror to make sure the vans were behind us. "Look behind us."
He looked in the mirror and saw the multiple cars following behind us.
I had about 50 warriors in the vans behind us. I know Allen is a man with many tricks. I wasn't going to walk into this and be blindsided.
"s**t," Adrian muttered, shaking his head, "remind me to not underestimate you."
I laughed and nodded as I kept driving.
"We're here," I said, stopping at Allen's border.
All of the warriors got out and I held my hand up.
"You guys stay here. I'm going to go and find Allen. If there's any issues I'll let you guys know," I said.
They all nodded followed by a chorus of yes Alphas as I turned towards Allen's land.
Adrian and I walked across his border and shifted, running towards his house.
When we got there and he was already standing outside as if he had been waiting.
I shifted back as he walked towards us.
"Makenna," he chuckled. "I see you got my note, so where's my son?"
I scowled and took a step towards him.
"Listen to me, Allen. I'm not the one you want to mess with," I growled in his face. "You were given specific instructions to f**k off and you stepped onto my land. That is normally a call for war. But I've decided to have a little talk with you first."
"Listen little girl," He said.
And that was all it took for my hand to make contact with his jaw, making him fall backwards.
"It's Alpha Makenna to you," I growled, giving him a glare, daring him to get back up.
"Good pup." I said, taking a step back as he stayed on the ground.
"You little bitch." He groaned, holding his face. "How's Austin holding up? Is he even holding up at all? I'm really not surprised if he isn't. He always has been the weak one."
I growled and leapt on top of him, punching him until I felt Adrian pull me away.
"Try again Allen," I growled. "and this time you'll join your mate."
"Just get off my land," He groaned, trying to stand up.
"Maybe you'll stay off of mine next time." I growled, shifting and running back to the woods.
I looked back and saw the wolves step from the tree lines, watching us run back to the border.
We got back to the border and all of my warriors were still there.
"Let's go home." I said. "But since you all are here. If Allen so much as waves an arm over our border, I'm to be contacted immediately. He is not welcome on my land no matter what he says."
There was a chorus of 'yes alphas' before I got back into my truck and we headed home.
"It was a trap." Adrian muttered as I drove away from his land.
"A shitty one." I glanced over at Adrian.
He smiled and nodded.
"A very shitty one." He chuckled. "No wonder he's ranked one of the weakest packs."
"I'd like to see him try to cross my land again. I don't care that he's Austins father. He crosses my border, he's dead." I said.
And I meant it.
•Austin's POV•
Sadie and I sat outside as we waited for them to come home.
There was nothing I could do. She had left without telling me.
My dad wouldn't of come here just to try to intimidate me. I know him better than that.
His goal was to piss off Makenna, to get her to come to him. Onto his land. Where he'd have his pack to back him up.
He knows how to piss people off, he knows how to draw them in. That's exactly what he did to my mate and I want him dead for it.
After everything he'd do to me, I never hated him.
I killed my mom, his mate. I always thought he had every right to treat me the way he did. But know that I've been with Makenna she's showed me I didn't deserve what he did to me, no body does.
But even then, I never wished death upon him.
I wished that he would be less hateful now that I'm gone, maybe he'd be the alpha and father he was before I was born.
But now he's come after my mate. And that's what isn't okay with me.
He hurt me my whole life, made me wish I was dead. But to attack my mate is a different story.
He'll pay for it, he has to.
I'll kill him myse-
"Austin they're back!" Sadie jumped up, interrupting my thoughts.
I got up as Makenna's truck pulled into the driveway.
I ran over as she got out and saw she had blood on her shirt and hands.
"Makenna." I said quietly, reaching out to her.
"It's not mine." She said, brushing past me and into the house.
"It was a trap." Adrian said as he walked around the truck. "But Makenna didn't give Allen enough time to even try."
"Is he dead?" I asked quietly.
"Almost. But I stopped her." He said before walking over to Sadie.
I nodded and walked back to our house.
I went up to our room and saw her sitting on the bed.
"Makenna?" I said quietly.
She looked up at me with tears streaming down her face.
"I wanted to kill him Austin." She said quietly, looking back at the floor. "I wanted to kill him so bad. As soon as he said your name I snapped. I've never wanted someone dead so much. I've always had control of my anger. I've always kept myself in check. But I couldn't. It was like I wasn't in control of my actions anymore."
"I know Makenna. Its okay." I sat down next to her, pulling her to me.
"No it's not. It's not okay." She shook her head, snuggling into my side. "Because even though I couldn't control myself, I don't regret it."
"What's so bad about that?" I asked quietly.
"I almost killed your dad, Austin." She whispered.
"No Makenna. You almost killed Allen. He isn't my father. Not after what he's done to me and tried to do to you. He deserves something far worse than death at this point." I said quietly. "I'm sorry Makenna. I'll open up more. I'll talk to you more. Just please don't leave me."
"Austin I would never leave you." She said, looking up at me. "You're stuck with me."
"I wouldn't want to be stuck anywhere else." I smiled, putting my hand under her chin as I pulled her face to me and kissed her.
"I think I love you, Austin." She said, pulling away.
"I think I love you too, Makenna." I smiled as she pulled me back to her.
"Can we go outside?" Makenna asked after we had been laying in bed for awhile.
"Sure." I nodded.
We stood up and I slipped on my sneakers while she went and changed her clothes.
She always changes her clothes.
She could be in a pair of shorts and a tee shirt and she'd still change into a different pair of shorts and a different shirt just to go outside.
I thought it was cute though, the way she always had to do the dishes after we ate. She hates them just sitting in the sink.
The way she changes for everything, no matter if what she's wearing is perfectly fine, she has to change.
The way she makes faces when she reads books. She doesn't realize she does it, which I think makes it even cuter.
She can't sleep unless it's cold in the room. She'll put on shorts and a tank top, even though it's freezing cold, because she likes to cuddle close to me under a lot of blankets. She can't do that if it's hot.
Everything about her is perfect.
"You ready?" She asked, bringing me back to the real world and out of my thoughts.
I nodded and followed her downstairs and outside.
We walked through the woods in silence, neither of us saying anything until she stopped and looked at me.
"I don't think I love you." She said. "I know I do."
"I love you too." I said, and I meant it.
"I think I've known it ever since I found you." She whispered. "Since I first saw you I knew you were going to change my life. And you did in the best way possible. It hasn't been that long, but I'm already a better person because of you."
"No." I shook my head. "You've always been this person. You just didn't realize it. You found me at my worst. And you still wanted me. Now I'm getting to be my best and you've been here through it all. I know it hasn't been that long, but it feels like a lifetime. I was scared at first. I thought you would reject me because of what had happened to me. But you didn't and I wasn't sure how I felt. You made me want to smile and to throw all of my worries away. But I was scared that even though you didn't reject me at first that you'd see the scars and you'd realize you didn't want me as much as you thought you did. Trust wasn't in my vocabulary, but you wrote the definition in."
She smiled at me as I wiped a stray tear that had fallen down her face.
"I am hopelessly and irrevocably in love with you, Makenna Rose."
"I love you too, Austin. I always will."
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed me.
I kissed her back, trying to show her how I feel through that one kiss. And I think I succeeded.
We walked a little further to the pond where we sat down at the edge.
We took our shoes off and put our feet in the water.
"What are we going to do now," I asked.
"What do you mean," she looked up at me.
"About Allen," I said quietly.
"After today's encounter I highly doubt he'll try anything. I think he understands that I'm not playing games," she shrugged.
"But what if he doesn't," I asked, "he's always been stubborn. The man I know doesn't stop until he gets what he wants. In this case it's me to suffer."
"Austin," she said quietly, "I won't let him get to you. You are mine and he will never hurt you again as long as I'm alive. I promise."
I just nodded and kissed the top of her head as we sat by the water.
Everything seemed okay in this moment. It was almost as if nothing bad could ever happen, like our life was problem free.
But that's not the case. Everything is far from perfect and we both know it.
We just choose to ignore it because everything else might be far from perfect, but being here with her makes all of the imperfect things worth it.
