Chapter 11 - Reunion With Old Friends
Without haste, Corvex lifted Jimmy’s lifeless body and carried it out of the ruins. He wrapped the corpse in plastic and placed it inside the trunk of his car.
Muttering something under his breath, he shut the trunk and drove away.
Corvex drove out of the dense forest, the trees thinning as the road opened up.
A short distance ahead, he noticed something unusual... a motorcycle parked beside an old, broken down house on the roadside.
He slowed his car… and stopped.
Corvex stepped out and stared at the abandoned house.
Then, quietly, he moved toward it... not from the front, but from the back.
As he approached, he heard movement inside.
He crept closer and peeked through a broken window.
Inside the dim room were a young college boy and a girl, tangled together.
Corvex chuckled.
“Well, well…
Looks like college classes are being held here,” he said mockingly.
“Mind inviting me to join your lecture?”
The couple had already heard the car earlier.
Now, seeing Corvex’s terrifying face staring through the window, they panicked.
They ran.
Corvex immediately rushed toward the front to intercept them...
But his foot struck a stone hidden in the grass.
He fell hard, his head slamming into the wall.
The boy and girl jumped onto the motorcycle and sped away at full speed, disappearing into the darkness.
Moments later, Corvex stood up slowly, steadying himself.
He dusted himself off and walked back to his car.
Anger burned in his eyes.
“Lucky bastards,” he growled.
“But how long can you keep running from me…?”
He got into his car and drove off.
( Reunion with Old Friends )
[5:00 PM]
Driving at high speed through narrow streets, Kanishk finally reached Rinesh’s house.
At the sound of the horn, Rinesh hurried outside.
Kanishk smiled and called out,
“So, my friend… ready to go?”
Rinesh replied excitedly,
“Yeah! Let’s go quickly... this is going to be fun.”
Rinesh got into the car, and Kanishk accelerated immediately.
People on the street turned their heads to stare as the car sped past.
After four long years, the two friends were finally going out together again.
Kanishk asked,
“So, where are we going?”
Rinesh told him to head toward the café near the bus stop. He had already called a few of their old friends and asked them to meet there.
Tonight, after many years, they would all be together again.
A few minutes later, the car exited the narrow lanes and reached the main road.
Kanishk overtook vehicles aggressively, driving fast and confidently.
Watching his driving, Rinesh said,
“Don’t take this the wrong way… but can I say something?”
“Go ahead,” Kanishk replied.
Rinesh smirked.
“The way you’re driving like a reckless maniac… it doesn’t really look like you’re some kind of government officer.”
Kanishk glanced at him and shot back,
“And looking at your face, you don’t seem like a useless, unemployed troublemaker either... yet here we are.”
Rinesh burst out laughing.
“Hey, I was just joking!”
Soon, they arrived at the café.
Kanishk parked his car outside, and both of them stepped out.
At an open table outside, a few familiar faces were already seated.
As they noticed Kanishk, they began whispering among themselves.
Rinesh said quietly,
“There they are. I called four people... only two showed up.”
They walked over.
At the table sat Alex and Nevil.
Everyone exchanged greetings.
Kanishk shook hands with Nevil... but deliberately ignored Alex.
Alex noticed and said,
“What’s wrong, man? Still holding onto old grudges? That fight is ancient history now.”
Rinesh quickly added,
“Yeah, forget the past. Live in the present. It was just a stupid argument... our friendship is bigger than that.”
Kanishk replied calmly,
“Yeah… that’s what I think too.”
Nevil smiled.
“First coffee, then dinner.”
Alex smirked.
“Only coffee? We’re grown men now. After dinner, we drink... beer, whiskey, everything.”
Rinesh nodded enthusiastically.
“Absolutely.”
They began talking about Kanishk’s car.
Among all of them, he was the only one who looked truly successful now.
They drank coffee, laughed, and shared stories from their college days.
Later, they moved to a restaurant for dinner.
The three friends jokingly convinced Kanishk to pay the bill.
Sitting at a table in the middle of the hall, they continued talking.
After a while, Rinesh noticed something.
At a corner table, a man... around thirty years old... kept glancing toward Kanishk.
A beautiful young woman in a yellow dress sat beside him.
Rinesh leaned closer and whispered about it.
Kanishk looked in that direction.
Then he stood up.
“I’ll be right back,” he said to his friends.
He walked over to the man.
Stopping at his table, Kanishk said casually,
“Hello, Zino. What are you doing here?”
Zino laughed.
“I’m working. But what are you doing here with so many guys? You’re making me suspicious.”
Kanishk replied,
“They’re my old friends. But tell me... who is this girl?”
The woman glanced at Kanishk but stayed silent.
Zino snapped,
“i***t. She’s my girlfriend. My love. Can’t you see?”
Kanishk smiled mockingly.
“You’re my true friend. Won’t you share your love with me?”
Zino exploded in anger.
“Get lost before I smash your head!”
The woman glared at Kanishk.
Laughing softly, Kanishk walked away.
Zino turned to his girlfriend and muttered,
“That guy’s crazy. Says whatever comes to his mind.”
(Night fell.)
After dinner, the group bought several bottles of beer from a liquor shop and gathered in an empty, deserted field outside the city.
As they drank, Kanishk kept staring at Alex.
It was clear... he hadn’t forgotten their past fight.
That argument had been about Rosie, Kanishk’s best friend at the time.
Kanishk had loved her.
Alex, however, had been secretly messaging her, harassing her.
That betrayal had shattered their friendship.
Rosie was gone now.
Only these old friends remained.
Rinesh suddenly asked,
“Can anyone tell me... what was the most unforgettable moment of our college life?”
Alex laughed loudly.
“When Nevil got beaten up by his girlfriend’s brothers! That one!”
Everyone laughed... except Nevil.
Nevil said coldly,
“I don’t regret getting beaten. I regret that none of you helped me.”
Kanishk said calmly,
“I wasn’t there.”
Alex shrugged.
“They were dangerous people. We couldn’t fight them.”
Rinesh quickly tried to smooth things over, calling it harmless joking, and the conversation shifted.
After a while, Nevil said,
“Guys, it’s dark. We should head home.”
Rinesh nodded.
“Yeah. The nights aren’t safe these days.”
Alex looked at Kanishk.
“My house is on the same side as Rinesh’s. Can you drop me?”
Kanishk hesitated for a moment, then replied,
“Fine. Get in.”
Darkness thickened as Alex joined them in the car.
As they drove, Alex asked,
“Kanishk… you never really told us what you do for a living.”
Kanishk answered coldly,
“I don’t think it’s something you need to know. The people who should know... already do.”
Alex raised his hands defensively.
“I was just asking. No need to get angry.”
Rinesh added,
“He’s right, Alex. You don’t need to know.”
Alex turned his face away and went silent.
Soon, they dropped Rinesh at his house.
Now it was just Kanishk and Alex.
Kanishk pressed the accelerator again and merged onto the main road.
Alex said,
“You were supposed to turn there. My house is that way.”
Kanishk replied calmly,
“Don’t worry. I need to pick up something first. I’ll drop you using a shortcut.”
Kanishk glanced at Alex... slowly, strangely.
Moments later, without warning, Kanishk turned the car onto a road leading out of the city.
Alex frowned.
“Why are we going this way?”
Kanishk didn’t answer.
Something about his silence felt wrong.
His intentions… didn’t seem good.
