The sun was high and warm on Kasey's face as they drove down the country road. Large spawling hills laid out before them, She sighed and watched out the window. How much more perfect could this day be, They had finished up in the kitchen after breakfast and went right to work on packing a picnic. Alister had to ask one of the staff if he even owned a picnic basket. The young woman who assisted him had a slight giggle. I dont think she seen this side of Alister. Goofy and fun, instead of quiet and stern business mogul.
I tried several times to get Alister to tell me where he was taking us today and he even acted like a child. Locking the pretend key on his lips and tossing before he burst out laughing.
Where did this man come from he was almost giddy with excitement for our afternoon. Yet barely knew where anything was in his own kitchen. I kept joking with him that his kitchen was now Narina's closet and he simply had to explore it to get to know it. But he took that as a hint seeing I was in his kitchen, that ment he could explore me. I kept playfully swatting at his advances and trying to lay out a picnic lunch for us. He ducked out of the kitchen really quick and came back in with a bottle of champagne. I groaned, thinking of last night's embarrassment, he played it up and still placed it with the basket and grabbed two glasses.
Coming out of my thoughts of our morning. I side glace at him and he acknowledged my look by reaching over and patting my thigh with his free hand.
"We are almost there, I promise the long drive is worth it." Alister says in a low tone.
I nod and focus back out the window, watching the rolling hills give way to vast tree lines.
we drove a bit more through the forest, turning off on a single lane gravel road. The trees were thick but slowly gave way to a clearing where a small cabin stood. The car pulled up and turned off.
My jaw dropped, he gently reached over and placed a hand on my leg again.
" This is my secret place, its not on a map and not on my books no one can find us out here."
I gave out a giggle , "as long as you dont murder me, this place is perfect."
He groaned at the poor joke, I just poked at.
"Let's go in, I will grab the Basket."
The cabin was small looked like singular roomed, trees framed all round it. The roof slopped to a little porch all that was missing was two rocking chairs and this would be out of some movie theme.
the key clicked in the door and Alister pushed the door open and hung back to allow me to walk in first.
"Wow, the outside did certainly deceive what was crouching inside." I said in awe.
The inside was massive, the back side of the cabin was all glass with a magnificent view of a large mountain across a sliver lake, it looked picturesque. looked like it was untouched by man and remained a secret to those who knew about it.
I stood in the middle of the large picture window and gasped at it all, so peaceful.
Alister set everything on a small table for two behind and me and joined me at the window.
"Everything your eyes touch, is mine, untouched no man will disturb anything out here. Come, I want to show you."
He took my hand and walked to a small door at the side of the cabin. It lead to a small walking path. Down the slope we came to a small dock and wooden row boat.
"Get in, hold my hand, I will steady the boat."
I slowly eased one foot into the boat rocked making me grip him harder.
He grunted with my grip, I released my grip quick.
Which made him grip me harder.
"I am not letting go, Kasey. Trust in that please." Alisters grip was firm but soft.
"Okay, can you hold the dock, while I step down?" by the time he finished saying it he was already planted firmly in the rowing position. I gapped at him,
"How did you do that with grace? I am so clumsy, I would be certain to end up in the lake."
I slightly smile up at him.
He untied the ropes that held us in place and pushed off. The boat rocked slightly with the nudge.
I froze in place as to not further continue its rocking.
Alister giggled at me.
I scowled at him. "Sorry I dont have your debonair."
"College rowing team for 4 years. nothing deboniar about it, just experience."
Alister said so cocky again.
We rowed out to the middle of the lake. The breeze was cool, a sign summer was ending and fall was about to begin. The trees bowed with the wind but the lake remained like glass.
His voice breaking the slience
"This became my escape, after high-school my family was pressuring me to do it all, the picturesque man of business and wanted my name and face on everything. I just wanted to explore and be free from whatever birth right was stamped on me. My Grandfather had just passed away . We used to come up here hunting and fishing. He left me this place. Seeing we were each brought in separately for his will reading, I never told my family about this place and the knowledge of its whereabouts died with him."
Alister looked stern and soft for the old man. I reached out and touched his hand.
"I am so sorry, I would of done the same thing. Except I would disappear here for ever!"
I said with empathy laced in my voice.
Alister, looked at me with a raised brow.
