That night Lily felt torn in two, half of her wanting to cry and pine over what she appears to have lost. The other half wanting to call her an i***t, as she’d literally just met the guy. But she just couldn’t explain it, even to herself the connection she felt with Jake. It was a feeling like nothing she’d ever felt before. It was made even harder by the fact that she’d never been able to get even remotely close to feeling that sort of connection with somebody before. Things just felt ‘right’ when she was with Jake....... that is until this morning when he completely changed and appeared to want nothing more to do with her.
Her head was pounding from the bump on it, and all her crying was making it worse. So Lily decided to go to bed and try to forget the events of the past couple of days.
Taking some painkillers and getting a hot water bottle, she climbed into bed and snuggled in and hoped sleep would make everything better.
When Lily finally drifted into sleep, she began to dream she was walking through a dense forest, she could hear something following her out of sight. The hairs on the back of her neck rising as she could sense she was being watched. Feeling unusually brave she spins round, and is comes face to face with a pair of golden eyes starting at her intently. The eyes felt familiar somehow, and yet when she stepped closer they appeared to belong to a large brown wolf.
Sh e must have rolled over in her sleep as she woke up with a start when she landed on the sore part of her head. With a grumble, she checked the time and decided to get up and go check on Monty before anything else.
When she got to the stables, the yard seemed surprised to see her advising that they’d been paid to look after Monty for the rest of the week and so had already done all the jobs that needed doing.
At this Lily became increasingly more irritated at Jake. For doing this when he didn’t need to, and then behaving how he had done. She now had nothing to do at the stables to take her mind off of him. She couldn’t even ride due to her head.
Without the distractions her mood became increasingly worse and what made it even harder was that she had no means of contacting him to even express her anger towards him. No idea of where he lived, and not even a phone number for him.
After a fuss and a groom of her horse, she stomps off home. Seething at the thought of Jake.
Lily’s day was pretty normal after that.
Attempting to keep herself distracted she messages some old ‘friends’ asking if they wanted to go shopping. Hoping it would help give her a much needed distraction. However as she sat and watched all of her friends sitting and laughing together, she couldn’t help but feel out of place and like she didn’t belong. Attempting to join in with their conversations, but found it just felt like she was acting. There was no enjoyment in this, it just felt wrong somehow. Like this isn’t where she is supposed to be.
All of this made her mood continue to worsen, as she remembers exactly how ‘right’ it felt being with Jake in his place and being beside him. In a way that she had never experienced before.
In the end, she apologises to her friends and decides to head home.
Life gradually falls back into a normal rhythm of Lily keeping to herself. Spending life between work, stables and home. The majority of any free time involved Lily keeping herself engrossed in a book. Days gradually turned into weeks in this way and Lily did her best to keep her mind away from Jake and the pain she seemed to feel by being apart from him.
Lily took up running to try to keep her mind occupied, and Jake free. However, it didn’t help that her running route often had sights of the forest. This was just a painful reminder of the events that led to that beautiful man. Just the image of him conjured in her mind caused her heartbeat to quicken and a frustration to build. Until one day a month or so on, she became so annoyed with herself she decided to go for a jog through the trail in the forest to prove she could.
Lily put in her earphones and put her Spotify playlist on random, before heading into the forest. The sun was up high and left a beautiful dappled light across the path as she powered through her run. So intent on focussing solely on where she was putting her feet she did not notice she was no longer alone. As she continued to run, she didn’t notice anything was wrong until she felt a breath against the back of her neck. The second she went to turn around a hand clamped round her mouth and something was pulled over her face.
Sheer panic started to set in, and Lily kicked and scratched out at the unseen attacker. Unfortunately her strength was useless against whomever it was as they easily overpowered her and knocked her to the ground. Suddenly Lily could smell a strange smell on whatever was covering her face, as she breathed in she started to feel whoozy, she started to panic but the faster she inhaled the worse she felt until everything went black.
Lily groaned at the pain in her head as she started to come round, with a grumble she opened her eyes and suddenly everything came back to her. Looking around her she was in darkness, unable to see where she was or anything about her surroundings. The only thing she could tell was that she was chained up by her wrists to a chain attached to something.
Starting to panic, Lily realised that thanks to her isolated life, not one person would know she was missing and in trouble. Trying to think rationally of any possible escape ideas or ways to get help. Lily just kept drawing a blank. As tears started to form in her eyes she couldn’t control herself.
“SOMEBODY HELP ME, PLEASE HELP! I NEED HELP!”
Unsurprisingly no help came, and Lily eventually grew tired of screaming for help as her voice became hoarse.
As time went on, tired, thirsty and hungry Lily eventually cried herself to sleep.
