It was all a lie

I paced around the room until my father barged in to the room.

´´What is the problem? You almost got me a heart attack´´ My father whisper yelled.

I didn´t care to answer and just walked over to my computer. My father watched me silently while I tried to find the girl on the security cameras again. I zoomed in and turned the computer around.

´´Who´s this? And don’t lie to me´´ I said sternly.

My father walked closer and squinted his eyes while studying the screen. I watched the wheels in his head go around and then his eyes bulged out of his head.

´´I… I dont..´´ My father stuttered.

I leaned forward and pushed the button to the intercom ´´I want everyone out. Now!´´ I said loudly so that I knew everyone in the house could hear me.

I watched everyone walk out of the house and an angry Alex walking upstairs to my study.

´´What is your problem? You can’t just kick everyone out like that!´´ My brother said while walking inside the room. He went silent when he watched my dad standing there stunned.

´´I think dad has some explaining to do´´ I said with an angry tone.

´´In a minute, I’m going to call your mother and get her over here so we can have a family meeting´´ My father said when he finally came out of his state of shock.

Alex and i sat in silence in the dining room while waiting for our mother to get home.

´´What is this about?´´ My brother asked.

´´Let´s just wait to everyone is here, I’m too angry to explain now´´ I said and then went silence again.

The front dor slammed open and my mother ran inside of the dining room with a frantic look. She looked around the room and saw my fathers guilty look, my brothers questionably look and my angry one.

´´Please sit down Mary, I think we have to tell them now´´ My father said with a sad face.

My mother slowly walked over to my father and took a seat beside him.

´´Go on, and no lies, I’m angry enough as it is´´ I said.

They stayed silent for a few minutes before my brother piped ut.

´´What is this about? You guys are scaring me´´.

My father shifted in his seat before talking.

´´18 years ago we were struggling with our income and when your mother became pregnant we tried our best to get everything in order for Alex to come in to this world. And we did, but after a few weeks we found out that it wasn’t just one baby, but two..´´ My father said and then looked over to my mother and reached for her hand.

´´What happened to the other baby?´´ My brother asked.

´´We couldn’t take care of both of the babies, so we had to give one of you up for adoption. It was the hardest decision we have ever made, but it was for her best. We adopted her away to a lovely couple who wanted a girl, had they wanted a boy, then you would have been the one..´´ My mother said to my brother.

He leaned back in his chair and the room fell silent.

´´You didn´t even think about looking for her after you got on your feet?´´ I asked.

´´I would have wanted nothing more than to do that, but we also have to think about the best for her. She has other parents now, we can’t just come barging in to her life and confuse her´´ my mother said lowly.
