The Intruder
( Selene's pov)
I gasped as a big hand yanked my wrist backward.As I whirled,my heart. ,
hammered,and my breath seized.
"Happy to see me again,my Luna?"Lucas grinned and fixed me with sharp grey eyes.I gasped, attempting to struggle free.
"Lucas go of me", but his hold tightened.
Lucas laughed and moved closer."Do you believe you might get away from me?",I am still free to come and go as I choose."
My stomach churned.My history,my error was Lucas standing in my room, invading my space,his presence a menace disguised in seduction .
"You shouldn't be here";I sharply said.
"But I am ",he responded fluidly, running a finger up my jaw."And to be honest Selene.Maverick is not deserving of you.He treats you like a real estate.You merit me".
"Get out",I stammered, backing away.
Lucas amusedly leaned his head forward.
"Are you not waiting for Maverick?, though he is elsewhere busy,hate to break it to you dear.He purposely enslaved you to keep you off from Thane.
"Liar !!";I quaked.
"Liar?",he asked,"what about Bob's alleged murder.He is from Nadira's strike. He escaped death.Right now Maverick is having a moment with Nadira.She is your real enemy and wouldn't give the Alpha a chance to be with you".
I froze in my stomach. Lucas said,"I can hear them", expanding his smile."you know secrets are not something werewolves possess.The entrance pack is listening to his ideas,Selene.Do you truly believe he worries about you?,For him,you are only a tool."
My claws cut into my hands as I closed my fists."You are lying ".
Lucas bent in.His breath brushing across my ear."is it me?".
I prodded him, strong."you disgust me".
Lucas staggered back and laughed just once.
"That is our unique quality,Selene.Our constant was fire and ice.
I spat,then sad," There's no us".
His sight faded."Then let me make it clear."Maverick dead is what I wish.I will adopt Moonthar'zik pack as my personal one . Also you....".He approached once again,his fingers brushing my shoulder." You will be my queen ".
I pushed back. "You're insane.Lucas let out a long sigh.Maverick hates you.All he wants is your supernatural power.You actually thought he saved you out of love?You are selected among Akira the Seer and healer.Everybody wants a bit of your unusual power, including Thane."
I shook my head,heart thumping. "You're false".
"I'm not", Lucas spoke in a soft voice,;"I'm the only one speaking the truth here".
I ate hard.His gaze at me was distorted.Love, obsession, encircled in a promise of power.
I mumbled,"Leave now!".
Lucas grumbled."such a shame.I had hoped you would choose wisely".
Then he shifted, quickly.His fingers pulled me back against the wall, around my throat.
" Selene,I usually get what I want.And tonight.....”.His lips started to twist."Tonight I take what is mine."
In my chest a panic burst.Though I tried,he was too strong.Then something caught my eye inside .
A growl tore over my mouth.My body started to move without notice.The claws and fangs passion.
Lucas's smile disappeared when I started to change.
"No.Selene, wait!".
Too late.
I stretched my claws tore across flesh in his abdomen.Blood splattered against the wall.Lucas gasped, Staggered back , gripping his tummy.
His wide, doubtful gaze locked with me."Your -".
The door came open.Through the door a shadow loomed.
"Maverick ".
His glittering eyes fluttered between me and Lucas's bloodied mess in the ground.
"Selene what have you done?";
No one spoke the words.They did not have to be.His expression conveyed everything and I knew in that instant, everything was about to change.
"You ought to have spared him".
Maverick had a chilly, even apathetic voice,yet his fury was shown in the piercing sparkle in his silver eyes.
Clutching my hands,I stood over Lucas's motionless corpse,his blood covering the floor."I had no decision at all.He leveled an assault on me.
Maverick moved forward,heaving over me."You are a witch,Selene".
My mouth stopped."I.....".
"You killed my only brother , right?. Didn't you?".
His question pierced deeply into my heart."it's not intentional",I opined,"Lucas is a manipulator and a liar.Maverick,he insisted on your death.He intended to make use of me".
He took hold of my chin and made me look at him."Then why did you take his life?".
I sucked hard."Because I'm not a monster.I needed to shield you."
Maverick drew closer then his lips closed into something like a sneer mixed with a smile.The outcome remains uncertain.
Between us,the air was thick-charged with unshed emotions and unspoken words.I loathed the sensay of my heart pounding under his touch,and his scent enveloped me like a peril I could not escape.He turned towards Lucas and released my chin.
"Drop him!".
I got stiffer."what!".
"You heard me".
Blocking Maverick's way.I moved towards Lucas."Spare my life"
Maverick's teeth clenched."You little devil".
With a shaky voice,"I am your Luna",I said,"please treat me with kindness.I tried to protect you from getting maimed,"
Maverick advanced,still another step forward,icy wrath shining in his eyes.I momentarily believed he would throw me into a dungeon .He is unpredictable.
Then his eyes flicked-to my lips,to my chest, lifted and dropped with every wobbly breath.
And the tension changed exactly like that.
"Why do you care so very much?,Now his voice was lower, harsh."why fight for me but not for yourself?".
I stood still.
*Maverick *.
His hand seemed like a whisper, light , but it seemed like fire.My waist.
"You are mine";he said softly."Not his.Not that of King Thane.Mine."
My heart flew against my ribs."I am not a member of anyone".
A nasty smirk drew at his mouth ."Then why does your body tremble when I touch you?".
Shame him.
He moved nothing as I pushed at his chest.
"You're impossible ".
"You are lying to yourself as well."My knees became weak from the way he stared at me,as though he were seconds away from either kissing or killing me.
Then unexpectedly,the estate echoed with a great boom.
Each of us turned.
The door opened violently.Gammas arrived in force
Thane.*
The scene of Lucas bleeding on the floor and Maverick standing too close to me filled his blue eyes with a burning rage.
"Step away from her",Thane snipped.
Maverick scowled;"and if I don't?".
Thane lacked hesitation.He ran.Their fists came together with terrible power.The collision knocked the walls.I gasped, staggered back,and the two Alphas collided their growls resounding over the mansion.
Thane sneered, throwing a blow to Maverick's jaw,"You always take what isn't yours".
Maverick laughed grimly as he dabbed at the blood from his lips."You think she wants you?".
The eyes of Thane flicked to me- searching, challenging .
"Selene",he continued,his voice faint now."Come with me".
Maverick squeaked."She's not going anywhere";Thane objected, saying."She can choose".
Their eyes stayed fixed on me, waiting.
Maverick: harmful, possessive,seductive.
Thane-strong, defensive , unrelenting.Two Alpha's,two directions of life.And I stood between,my heart splitting in two.
"Selene",Thane said once again."come".
My wrist was strokes by Maverick's fingertips."stay".
My pulse is like a ghost.If I choose king Thane,I would be free from Maverick's hegemony - but at what expense?.
"Should I remain with Maverick,I would be caging myself with a wolf capable of either loving or annihilating me.His stare reminded me of the recent crime committed and the smell of the dungeon whirled round me.Maverick may use Lucas's murder against me.
I had to make a choice.But first before ,I could talk.A stinging agony tore over my chest.Clutching my ribs.I gasped,the world turned.My knees gave way.
"Selene!";Both Thane and Maverick grab for me, their words tinged with terror.
