Elektra did not recognize him, mostly because of the first meeting between them, the situation was just too chaotic.
Nano's assassin’s raid was launched the moment Abel showed up.
There was a lot of gunfire, a lot of noise, and there were bullet holes and pieces of furnitures all over the deck.
Elektra was only concerned about the evacuation of Wendy. Abel’s brief glimpse did not leave any impression on her at all.
But Abel said he had seen her.
With no rhyme or reason Elektra always felt that he was implying something else.
In a stifling silence, Abel Hill's eyes slowly fell to her hand, and he asked in a desultory manner, “It’s late Miss Garner. Where have you been?”
"Ah! She went to get my shitty things for me."
A clear female voice came from the kitchen. Wendy Evans hurried over with two glasses of whisky in her hand.
Abel’s eyebrow frowned imperceptibly.
“It was so scary. You know I had gunshot PTSD. I couldn't sleep without sleeping pills."
Wendy finished her words, and squeezed her way over to take the paper bag from Elektra's hand.
As the successor of the Wings group which is based in Singapore, Wendy’s father is the richest man there. Mark Evans controls HNA, Air Transport and Malacca’s access to east and south-east Asia.
Wendy has been known for her indulgence since time immemorial.
Her ego tells her that she is the center of the world, and that she is barely sensible to the feelings of others around her.
Of course, the “other person" also includes Abel Hill.
As a result, under Wendy's intervention, the intimidating aura from Abel vanished.
Wendy sat down beside Elektra and passed one of the whiskeys to Abel with a feigned smile.
In the light of the huge chandelier in the living room, Elektra could clearly see a hair floating on the wine.
For a time, she was almost sure that Wendy was purposely driving him away.
Abel did not take the cup that Wendy handed over. He looked at Elektra, asking coldly, “Is Miss Garner a New Yorker?”
Elektra nodded.
“But at the New York security company, Miss Garner's record was not available two years earlier. So, Miss Garner has only been in the industry for less than two years?”
Elektra chilled.
It suddenly dawned on her - why this man, who had never cared about Wendy, would drop in on her today.
It was not to appease his fiancee, but to find out what she was up to.
Then he must have an ulterior motive for bringing up the engagement party just now, when they first met.
Initially the itinerary and time of the party were absolutely confidential. The Nano family could pinpoint the exact location. If it’d not been because of a traitor, Elektra herself would have believed it.
So Able was...?
Elektra turned back and looked at him calmly, neither humble nor overbearing, “It’s less than two years for me to become a bodyguard, Miss Evans is my first employer.”
Abel's lip corner tilted a little, “Then it’s impressive for Miss Garner to have such fighting skill.”
“Before I became a bodyguard, I had worked as a combat instructor at a gym in Chinatown,” Elektra added. “I learned to fight when I was a kid.”
“Since childhood?” Abel turned slightly to look at her, with cold light in his brown eyes.
“Yes.” Elektra nodded.
“What other hobbies does Miss Garner have?”
A thunder broke out. She heard the sound of gunshots and cries like a ghost that had suddenly crawled out of Hell.
Fortunately, this stunning moment did not make her lose her composure. Elektra held her clothes tightly, and spat out a word.
“No.”
“No?” Abel raised one of his eyebrows.
The look in his eyes became gloomy.
“No.” Elektra repeated, firmly shaking her head.
She is the member of Evans’ family. Either for the personal relation or the business, Elektra knows, Abel will not touch her in a blatant way.
The colorful rainy night of Manhattan was reflected on the glass of whiskey.
There was a moment of deadlock.
“AH——“
At the other end of the sofa, Wendy yawned, with eyes full of tears.
She blinked and pretended to be stunned when she saw everyone staring at her. She gave an unapologetic smile and explained, "I'm really sleepy. Sorry."
Abel was too lazy to pretend to be the fiancé. He gave no expression at all, right from the beginning.
Vito answered a phone call and came back, looking at Elektra and Wendy, lowered his voice to Abel and said something.
Abel was still silent without any visible expression on his face.
A moment later, he got up, picked up his coat from the sofa and headed straight for the elevator.
"I forgot to tell," he said calmly as he turned to look at Wendy.
"There has been a lot of activities in Nano recently. You’ve just come to the city and don't know anyone here. So, don’t go about if there is nothing special.”
She was going to be grounded apparently.
Wendy jumped up from the sofa in a daze.
"And Miss Garner," Abel added. "Just stay at the apartment and keep an eye on Miss Evans. Tell Vito what you want and he'll arrange it."
Abel has always been strong, of course. He never gave them a chance to rebut.
The doors of the elevator closed.
The distance from the penthouse to the underground car park was fifty floors.
Although the luxury elevator at the Pinnacle was spacious enough, It would be crammed full of just one guy like Abel. With an aura of five meters, he could allow no living space within a two-kilometer radius for those who ride with him in the same elevator.
Vito followed all the way with Abel Hill, until he hopped on the front seat of the Rolls-Royce. He relaxed a little for a few minutes, and secretly pulled the tie.
He didn't do a very good job today. Something that happened on the cruise ship was bad already, but being kicked by a woman on the chin in public was to add insult to injury...
If it hadn’t been his boss who came down and cleaned his s**t, he wouldn't have known how to end up.
He couldn’t really shoot Miss Evans’ henchmen.
Vito was stocktaking today's various mistakes silently. He lifted an eye, observing Abel’s face secretly from the rear view mirror.
It never lacks color in New York night.
Rains with neon-light fell on the car window, left a faint halo in his lazy brown eyes.
Abel sat sideways with one hand against his chin. With the setoff by his brown hair and the high collar sweater, the deadpan face hardly looked like a living creature. Light and shade in the car seemed to be cut by the sharp curve of his face.
There was a vibration in Vito’s waist. He took out his cell phone and saw a few photos sent from one of his men.
Some bloody faces.
Killers on the cruise have been tortured to death.
“Any information?” The extremely discernible bass line of Abel was heard from behind his back.
“No.” Vito replied nervously, pausing for a moment before going further, “Nano has always been cautious not to let assassins know who the mole is.”
The atmosphere inside the car was cheerless and gloomy. Abel was staring out of the window in a trance for a long time.
He gave a flat “En”.
Vito looked away again, uneasily, and saw a file on his phone.
“Boss,” he opened a tablet and handed it to Abel and said, “The information about Elektra has been found.”
The cold eyebrows slightly contracted, Abel took the tablet PC.
Vito sat in silence the whole time, peering from time to time at his boss' face in the rearview mirror: not bad.
The tablet was thrown back from behind. Vito batted his eyes, waiting for orders. But he saw Abel restore the poker face that could drive strangers away.
“...” he had to bite the bullet and ask,“Anything wrong with her?”
With his finger tapping the armrest unconsciously, Abel responded with a “no” apathetically.
Vito breathed with a relief.
After all, Elektra is a member of the Evans' family. If there is indeed something wrong, Abel’s cooperation with Wings will be adversely affected.
It is always better to have a friend than an enemy, especially in such a sensitive period.
“No problem is the biggest problem.”
Abel said, “Her resume is too clean. It's logical and flawless, as if she knew that someone would investigate her. Besides...”
He paused and thought of Elektra's firm and magnanimous eyes when she looked at him.
She said she had no long-standing hobbies other than fighting.
“Ha...” Abel almost wanted to laugh out loud.
Vito was stunned.
Before he could figure out what his boss' creepy smile meant, he heard Abel say, "I don't keep any suspicious people around."
"But Miss Evans..."
The clatter of leather gloves against the seat stopped, and Abel looked up.
Headlights blurring up and down the street made him exceedingly sharp-eyed.
He looked at Vito in the rearview mirror for a moment, and said in a low voice, "Waste her. An accident you know.”
"What about the Nano Killers?" Vito asked.
Abel closed his eyes, and said coldly.
“Make it a gift and send it back to Nano.”
