Chapter11 New Boss

2166 Words
There were some noises in the bathroom: a Calypso’s suppressed moaning and groaning, and gentle soothing sound of the bath water. The long and graceful neck presented a beautiful arc on the frosted glass. Abel sank into the sofa, recalling the alluring image he had seen in the sealed cabin. For no reason at all a mania popped up from his heart. Able kneaded his sore temple, wondering why the hell he brought Elektra back to his apartment. Even if there was a reason to evade Wendy’s inquisition, he could not fool himself this time: Everything was different from the moment when Elektra said to him - that she wanted to use him for revenge. Since then, a crevice had been made in the dust-laden long-forgotten place of his heart. Two of a kind finds each other sometimes. In the gunfire and smoke of that night, she looked up and confronted him: sharp eyes, with unyielding spirit and a touch of arrogance. At that moment, Abel saw his own shadow again - a 16-year-old boy who fled back to New York from Moscow; a man driven by desperation. Both of them clutched at straws to change doom for boom. They had nothing, and this nothingness made them rely on the so-call a lone wolf act of valor. This solitary spirit, trekked the mountains of blood, stepped on the enemy's head, rode on the bloody wind, and finally landed him at the “top of the world”. When Vito asked him a moment ago if he wanted to send someone in, he said no. He couldn’t explain why. He only knew there was a strange look in his heart. He was expecting her to come to him. With a grudge, and a gun. She lived up to his expectations. Braggart like, stubborn, self-righteous and green, she was like a lone wolf defying to be tamed. If everyone were an individual broken into pieces by the Fate, with this or that crevice, no doubt Elektra got the exactly same one as his. With darkened eyes and tightened sharp lip line, Abel drank up the whiskey on the table, and pushed the balcony door open. Outside was a never-ending foggy haze in this city. * The next day, Elektra woke up in a large and soft bed. Sunlight went through the bright glass and curtain, left a layer of soft veil on the quilt. The chaos in her body and mind was still unabated. Elektra looked around and lost for a moment in the gray and white furniture decoration. Her clothes had already been changed. She was wearing a conservative style of cotton nightdress that was comfortable and fitting her size. Across the bed, there was a set of women apparel hanging on the hanger neatly. Elektra went off the bed barefooted. When walking to the hanger, she found that someone had even prepared underwear for her: the size was precisely done. The moment when consciousness coming back to her, Elektra heard muffled noises from downstairs. It seemed that someone was practicing boxing with a punch bag. The heart suddenly stopped. The memory of last night surged back like a tidal wave... ... She looked at her pajamas in disbelief and turned pale. * The Boxing Room is located on the first floor of the apartment, with a panoramic view and good lighting. It is the favorite place for a fitness freak, like Abel Hill. When Elektra found the place, the first thing she saw was Abel’s bare chest. He was wearing hand bound belt, and sweated soaking wet. With each punch, the well-defined muscles would contract and expand, with an explosive force that only a cheetah could have. His shoulder blades were like a pair of eagle wings, taut and smooth, vigorous and undulating. The sun was clear and cool, shining on the tiny sweat drops from his body, like a layer of translucent light. Elektra learned fighting skills from him. Never before had she stood aside quietly to appreciate his beautiful and nimble movements from the third person's point of view. She lost in thought for a while. “Yes?” The husky male voice arose, with something panting. The scene made Elektra feel somewhat uneasy. She looked away calmly and asked with a stern face, “Did you change my clothes?” Abel stopped practicing. But before he could say anything, the door of the boxing room was pushed open from the outside. A middle-aged woman in housemaid dress walked in and bowed to Abel, “Mr. Hill, the breakfast is ready.” Hanging in her arm was the gown that Elektra had worn the night before. She seemed to do away with it. “...” Elektra suddenly understood. At another glance, Elektra found Abel seemed to be quite interested in seeing her embarrassment. “I don't have a hobby of changing other people’s clothes.” Abel put on his coat and ordered, “Wait for me at the dining room.” Elektra was very annoyed with his bossy attitude. She went to the restaurant with two clenched fists. It didn’t take her long to wait for Abel. He wasn’t in a formal suit as usual. This time he wore a white shirt. A few beads on the tips of his hair revealed that he’d just taken a shower. Elektra stood opposite the dining table and next to the low cabinet. She was a poker face all the way through. Abel only cast a glance at her after entering the room. After he sat in front of the dining table, Abel lifted his chin and asked the maid to pull a chair for her. “No?” He asked. A man of few words unchanged even when inviting Elektra to dinner. Elektra was not pretentious. After last night’s rock and roll, she was starving and too lazy to pretend. She walked straight over and sat down. Abel sat next to her. In front of him, there was a small cup of espresso with a loaf of cheese bread and a few slices of Bacon. But his eyes fell on a magazine at hand, nibbling quietly and elegantly. Elektra finally couldn't bear the weird atmosphere any longer. She put down the coffee in her hand and asked coldly, “So, Mr. Hill just wanna have a meal with me by asking me to wait here?” Abel ignored her. Not until he had the last sip of coffee did the deep eyes finally land on her. He did not answer her question, but reached out his hand and asked, “Where is it?” “…” Elektra rolled her eyes to his arrogant and bossy attitude. “What is it?” Elektra knowingly asked, making it difficult for him. Abel was not annoyed at all. He lifted his lip conner and fetched a tablet from the maid. “This is a picture of you sneaking into Murphy's thank-you party yesterday.” Elektra stunned, looking at those secretly taken photos with clenched fists. Mark Evans just entered New York. He was a low-key guy because of his lack of solid track record. A big shot like Murphy was definitely a taboo, which he knew all along it would be unwise for him to break. In this respect, if Mark found out that she had caused such a huge mess for the Evans, he would probably take care of her immediately without any need from either Nano or Abel. What an asshole! Fortunately, after weighing the pros and cons, Elektra quickly calmed down - a smart guy wouldn’t take a chance to ask for trouble at hand. Those evidence was useless to her after all. She pulled a long face and began to unbutton her blouse. This time, it was Abel who was stunned. Before he could stop her, the woman had pushed her slender white fingers into the deep cleavage. The next moment, a disk was clutched between her fingers and handed to him. One, two... He didn't answer. Abel didn’t move his eyes and open his palm to her until she became impatient and looked at him with frowning eyebrows. It was a metal disk, the size of a knuckle on his palm. Even through the leather glove, he could feel her body temperature. It was as hot as a spark. “Where's my necklace?” Elektra asked. Abel took it up and asked the maid to fetch the small box. Elektra opened it. The necklace that Marta had given her lay quietly inside. “From now on, you work with Vito.” The hand with the necklace paused. Elektra raised her eyebrows and looked at him, as if she had just heard a joke. The man on the other side looked calm and lowered his head to continue drinking his coffee. “Taking down Murphy is only the first thing first. Miss Garner thinks it is enough?” Elektra was silent. Two of them starred at each other, in a tit-for-tat stance. This was undoubtedly a dangerous move. The intuition told her that Abel did not completely trust her just because of Murphy's affair. She thought it was unimaginable of his decision to keep her around. Maybe he wanted something else, but at least he didn't want to kill her any more. Elektra had always been cautious about what she could not comprehend at a time. But to capture the beast, it is always necessary to use blood as bait. Besides, it's her only chance. She put down the cup, and said to Abel, “Whatever Mr. Hill instructs me to do is your wish my command.” Another few breaths of silence. The man on the opposite smiled and kept turning the page of the magazine without looking at her. “Has Miss Garner forgotten? You're the one who wanna take revenge on Nano. I'm just giving you a chance.” Clearly he drew a line in this situation. “Then… thank you Mr. Hill.” Elektra smiled. "I'll get Vito to arrange a new abode for you." He got up and turned around to look at her, as if he suddenly thought of something before leaving. "Do you understand what it means to work for me?" “Yeah.” Elektra nodded. "To become a gun and a knife for Mr. Hill will be no way out, unless I die." A cold chill rushed along his spine. Abel stopped for a while as if he had been caught by her sentence. It was the first time he had ever felt a real threat. And it was the first time he had ever been attracted to a kind of recklessness known as “Persevering". He dropped his cold eyes and lifted his lip corner. * In the evening, Elektra planed to return to the previous apartment to collect things. She called Wendy first. Abel could have informed her early in the morning. So she was very calm about this decision. It gets dark fast in New York during the early spring. There was a drop guy to pick up her stuff. Elektra went out with only a SIM card to contact Mylan. For more than two weeks, Elektra had been out of contact. Mylan probably must have gone crazy for losing contact with her. She found a sparsely populated place. After making sure there was no one tailing, she put in the phone card. With a switch-on, millions of messages and e-mails were blowing up the phone almost to collapse. All were from Mylan. Elektra dialed Mylan's number immediately, but no one answered after several attempts. The night was getting thick. The street lamps were on, and a few strangers passed by in a hurry. Elektra was more and more uneasy. She called Mylan again, but still to no avail. “Click” As if it had been an illusion, Elektra seemed to hear a light footstep behind her, just as she hung up the phone. Now that it was heavy enough, the footsteps should be those of a man. This made her already anxious heartbeat suddenly stopped. Breath became tense. According to the long-term experience as an undercover, Elektra felt as if she had been trailed. She immediately became alert. As she took out the SIM card from her phone and put it back into the lighter cover, she quickly deleted all the records on her phone. She dashed quickly into the alley. As expected, the pace behind her also accelerated. The street lamp lit up suddenly. As there appeared a corner in front of her, Elektra turned quickly and ducked in it. The cold white light shone on the top of her head, reflecting the figure in the distance clearly. Elektra held her breath and saw the shadow on the ground chasing after her, closer and closer. "WHOA!" “Bang!" With a dull sound of muffled humming, the person was caught off guard and pressed on the wall by Elektra.
