The leather of gloves is smooth and numbingly chill.
Elektra was dazed, and looked up at Abel.
His pupils were dark and seemed lurking with a dark fire. She suddenly felt nervous and pulled her hand back immediately.
But Abel's hand was so big that the wrist held by him seemed feeble and fragile as if it could be broken at the slightest attempt.
“Mr. Hill?” Elektra called him.
She swept over him with her sharp eyes. The tone was quite strong.
Abel was startled before coming back from the distracted mind. He finally loosened the grip.
The atmosphere was lovely quirkiness.
Elektra didn't want to be alone with Abel any more. She then got up, tightened her robe, and closed the piano’s cover.
“Has Mark Evans ever assigned you with tasks before?” Abel asked with an unnaturally hoarse voice.
Elektra paused and turned to look at him with raised eyebrows.
When the man came over and stood before her, his expression and voice had returned to normal.
“Nano's mole has been found.” he said.
“Tomorrow, you’ll follow Vito’s arrangements.”
Elektra’s heart palpitated after a short silence. This meant that Abel wanted her to participate in their internal affairs
So…
Does it mean that Abel is beginning to trust her?
*
The following evening saw Vito dialing Elektra’s number, as per Abel’s instructions.
Elektra changed into a bunt jacket and went out with a gun.
Vito brought a dozen men. They were all dressed as minions. It was the first time for them to see Elektra. They were quite curious when they clapped their eyes on her as if she had come from la la land. But Elektra was never a people person. She did not follow them the way that newlyweds would do when meeting their elders.
Instead, she buried her head in Vito's car directly.
The crowd got stunned for a while, probably because they had never seen a rookie as aloof as she was.
Vito was unhappy about Elektra’s gesture.
After all he brought her here. So her rudeness could be a slap in his face.
But Elektra was the one Abel assigned to him.
Naturally, Vito dared not teach her a lesson.
So all he could do was showing her the cold shoulder all the way. The atmosphere in the car was suffocating.
Their car crossed the Midtown Manhattan and parked outside a bar in Little Italy.
Bright lights, Big city across the street, and the usual noise.
Men and women were dressed in fashion, waiting in line at the entrance to the bar.
Vito rolled down the window, raised his chin nonchalantly. He looked at a nearby bar and said to Elektra, “There it is.”
She looked in the direction he pointed, frowning at the pink and purple sequins.
“You go from the back door.” Vito said, pointing at a side street near the bar.
“Call us when you find Kerry.”
“On my own?” Elektra was surprised, turning around.
“Or what?” Vito nodded nonchalantly. “New guys need some extra exercise.”
Elektra was silent for a moment. She said nothing, but turned to open the door.
Vito intended to give the ignorant newcomer a warning. But seeing that she walked right away and that especially she was so hard-nosed, he was more than angry.
He stopped for a while, and called her in a less friendly voice.
“Leave the gun.”
“Sorry?” Elektra was surprised and looked at Vito again.
Vito was chewing gum. The green eyes were glittering with impatience.
He repeated it to Elektra, “The security guards outside are only equipped with a retractable stick. If you shoot, what if the people inside hear it and run away? That’s your funeral?”
Elektra gritted her teeth, knowing that Vito was making things difficult for her intentionally.
She said nothing, and hurled her gun to him.
“Go.” Vito said. “Find out where Kerry is and come back to me.”
He fetched out a walkie-talkie and threw it to Elektra.
Elektra took the headphones and left.
By going around the crowd in front, Elektra came to the back door of the bar. There were no signs, and the lights were dim, except for a broken lamp at the door, which was blinking brightly now and then.
“Who the f**k are you looking for?”
Elektra was about to push the door when she was stopped by an unfriendly voice behind.
She turned back and saw a bald tattooed man wearing a black t-shirt.
He walked toward her with his pants pulled up.
Not far away in the dark alley, a woman with heavy makeup put on the sky-high shoes and walked away.
“Looking for someone.” Elektra answered with a flat tone.
“Use the front door.” Baldy looked at her, said perfunctorily. Then he walked to the chair aside and sat down.
“I'm looking for Kerry.”
The answer stunned the Bald Man.
He raised his head and looked at Elektra again. Suddenly, he smiled as if he understood something. His eyes were full of lust as he said, “Oh? Are you the w***e that he brought here to give us a good time?”
With the question, his big and furry hand reached out to Elektra's chest.
She turned sideways to avoid.
“Ouch!”
The muffled sound and the man's cry of pain bursted at the same time.
The bald man covered his nose and stepped back.
He looked agape at the blood on his hand, then gritted teeth and swore profanely “you mother fucker!”
He rushed to Elektra furiously. His lightening speed and the vehement force.
Elektra was suppressed by him instantaneously.
“Thump!”
She was lifted and thrown to the wall.
People inside seemed to hear the fall. The back door of the bar was pushed open, and five men filed out.
The bald man saw his helpers and became even more arrogant. He cursed and spat.
“Catch this b***h. We’ll all have a thrilling time together.”
Elektra held her shoulder and stood up. She picked up the bald head’s retractable stick silently.
“Clack!”
White light flashing. It was the cold hard metal’s glow.
*
Vito was chewing his gum in the car and checked the bar from time to time.
The timer indicated it was 10:30pm - 15 minutes had passed since Elektra got off.
Vito disquietly pressed the earphone. It was certain he didn’t hear Elektra’s call for help.
Although she was good at fighting, Vito knew the security of the bar very well. The Big Man at the door, whose nickname is Magic Mountain, was tricky enough. Not to mention that there are usually four or five goons waiting inside.
Could she get knocked out?
Vito became anxious about his guess.
After all, Elektra was assigned by Abel. If she was injured in her first assignment, it would seem that he didn’t know how to train new guys.
With that in mind, Vito snorted, spat out his gum, and ushered his entourage out of the car.
After just a few steps out, his way was blocked by a Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
The window rolled down, and Vito swallowed his saliva as he looked at the sharp line of a face in the backseat.
“Boss…” he murmured.
Abel looked up and answered casually. He then turned his black eyes away.
When he looked at Vito again, his expression turned ugly.
“Where’s she?" His voice was cold and serious.
Without mentioning of a name, Vito immediately understood what he was hinting at.
"Miss Garner..." Vito tried to restore himself. "She... she said that she would check it out first…"
Upon hearing Vito’s words, Abel’s eyebrows frowned deeper.
He got off the car silently.
Vito realized the stifling atmosphere, feeling the sweat dripping down his spine.
He quickly trotted along after Abel, and explained in a low voice, “it’s not long. I gave her a wireless headset. She'll contact me if there's anything. But I haven't heard from her yet, so it should be..."
There was a commotion from a nearby bar, and the crowd rushed out, screaming and jostling.
Vito’s babbling stopped abruptly. He swallowed his saliva again as he looked at the back door.
Six men lay in various positions, some on their knees, some groaning in pain.
The Magic Mountain, whom he had feared the most, had been hurt too badly: collapsed on his back, unconscious…
Everyone was dumbfounded.
Only Abel was still calm. After a slight pause, he bypassed the bunch of guys in front of him.
A noisy heavy metal music was still played in the almost empty bar. The red and green spots on the dance floor were twirly swirly, dazzling people's eyes.
Abel soon noticed that in the dim corner of the bar, there was a slim figure in a short black jacket. As Elektra carried someone to the seat, her long hair of micro-s-curl spread out, then draped down disorderly, blocking her scratched side face.
"Got him.”
she said without batting an eyelid, and held him down with her knee. Then she got up, and pulled her hair out and pressed the headset against her ear.
Distance was too close. Elektra heard the echo behind. She turned back and saw a pair of eyes as deep as the ancient well.
Abel was looking down at her as well, with his eyes straight and keen.
“Come.”
Abel's voice was dull, as if with faint displeasure.
The people behind him came forward and drew their guns. The scene was instantly under control.
Elektra had no idea why Abel was unhappy, but let go of Kerry as he ordered, and walked to Abel.
Her hand was empty, as Abel took the retractable stick away from her.
His wrist turned around and grabbed her, pulling her behind him.
Abel said nothing, but gave her a cold glance.
His eyes fell on her bruised cheeks.
Elektra palpitated inexplicably.
"Boss!"
Vito emerged from the bar's control room holding a laptop and a cell phone. He switched it on, and found there were full of Abel's tracking data.
It goes without saying who the mole is.
On the sofa, Kerry was tied up, his face being pale and livid. The evidence was irrefutable.
There was no room for rebuttal. He’d probably be acutely aware of his ending. He didn't lose his temper to cry out loud. Everything was calm.
"Have something to say?" Abel looked at his watch, "Give you one minute."
Kerry shook his head and said frankly, “You just want to know why I betrayed you after being with you for so many years? Heh...”
He laughed, his voice was ferocious. “But I will not tell you. You can get it when you are in the grave alongside me.”
Kerry wanted to provoke Abel deliberately. But his words did not work like charm. Abel sat down in a chair brought over by Vito, as if he did not hear what Kerry was saying.
He twirled the ring on his pinkie, and said calmly.
“In the year after I returned to New York, I plotted a shootout in Little Italy against a New York mafia family. There was a bar singer who died in a stray bullet. If I'm not mistaken, she was your wife.”
Seeing that Kerry did not respond, Abel added, “I also found out that after your wife had passed away, you were not completely care free because you had a son who just turned 16 this year.”
Kerry's face turned ghostly.
Abel still sat upright. He looked down at Kerry as if he’d been looking at an ant.
“In fact, considering how long you've been with me, I was thinking that as long as you were a little more frank, I might spare your son. I’ll send him out of New York, as long as he doesn't come back, I’ll not touch him again. Unfortunately, you missed your chance.”
As Abel spoke he waved his hand. A young boy was brought up by his minions.
Kerry could no longer hold back his anger at the moment he saw his son. He began to curse and swear.
Abel was not interested in listening to him, but ordered someone to gag his mouth.
The boy was so frightened that he cried and begged for mercy.
But the minions ignored that. They bound Kerry and his son by hand, and brought them to the center of the dance floor.
Background music has stopped for a while.
There was gaudy light flowing over their head. Colorful lights flashed through their face, which looked eerie and desolate.
“Click!"
The sound of a bullet being loaded was loud and abrupt.
The elegant black gloves stroked the shiny barrel. Abel walked over and stood still. He lifted up his gun.
Seeing this scenario, Elektra suddenly felt a stir in her stomach. A cold sweat dripped out on her forehead. She covered her stomach secretly, trying not to be seen.
However, this act she put on betrayed her.
The tall figure by her side paused. Then he turned to look at Elektra, with his pupils slightly tightening.
"Killed anyone before?" Abel asked, in a deep and cold voice.
Elektra was startled.
She looked up at his eyes, which were indifferent and lifeless. For a long time, there was no reaction.
“Come.” He said coldly, looking at her.
The already loaded gun barrel was handed to her. Elektra heard the man's low voice ringing in her ears.
“Kill them!”
