Chapter Five I breathed a sigh of relief that the question hadn’t come from anyone important. Pulling my hat and gloves off, I tucked them inside Mum’s furry jacket. I was sweating already, but didn’t want to call even more attention to the jacket by taking it off. I probably smelled worse than Ransom. Yuck. Ellie was on the field, so I decided to say something to her before I left. It felt like forever since I’d talked to my best friend. I ignored Ransom’s attempt at conversation and walked over to her. Without me playing, Ellie was goalie. I could see why she worried that she was taller than all the boys—she stood out magnificently. My own height was just as impressive, particularly with my black hair sticking up and out in all directions, but it didn’t bother me. I liked being tall.
