Chapter Seven I dropped my own sword on the floor and fell to my knees. ‘Ellie? Are you hurt?’ ‘You stabbed me!’ Thank goodness—she’s fine. ‘No I did not!’ ‘How could you be so stupid!’ ‘You dropped that sword, not me.’ ‘You dropped me!’ ‘It was a move, you telker.’ Ellie shifted sideways, and her sword clattered to the floor. One edge was stained red near the tip. ‘Wait,’ she said, ‘is that my blood?’ I put my hand to Ellie’s head and felt the warmth of her leaking skin. The blood on my own hand was already clotting into a fine line. ‘I stabbed you!’ ‘No you didn’t.’ Ellie sat up and pushed my hand away. ‘At least, you didn’t get me in the face.’ Why are we so angry? ‘Hide the swords,’ Ellie ordered, sitting up and crossing her legs. ‘My head’ll stop bleeding in a sec.’ I win
