Chapter Fifteen Dad flung me to the ground. I looked up as the pirate’s spear hit him. It sank into his shoulder and the point came out his back, red with his blood. ‘Daddy!’ I grabbed for something—anything—to hold on to as I slid backward. There was only ice. Still screaming, I plunged over the edge. ‘Daddy!’ I hit the rocks hard, jamming my leg into the crevasse between two ice boulders. They smelled of rotten fish from the sea creatures that had been smashed against them by the sea. I tried to lift myself out, but I couldn’t. My leg was stuck. A wave drenched me from head to toe, filling my nose and mouth with bitter water before it retreated. Where’s Dad? Why isn’t he helping me? ‘Dad! I’m down here!’ I looked up in time to see his grey face leaning over the rim of the ice.
