My name is Serena Sterling, an heiress with so much money that I didn't know what to do with it.
In high school, the school recruited a batch of students with excellent grades but ordinary family backgrounds.
One of them was assigned to my class.
The one assigned to our class was a boy named Gary Grant. He was fair-skinned and clean-cut, but he wore a faded old school uniform that had been washed white.
I heard he was an impoverished student, so poor that even among ordinary people, he stood out.
I still remember when the teacher brought him to class and wanted to seat him next to Jenny Jensen.
But Jenny pinched her nose with one hand and fanned the air with the other, a look of disgust on her face. "No way, Miss. Who knows if he smells weird or something."
I glanced at Jenny, then at Gary. He was clearly hurt by her words, his hands clenched tightly around his sleeves, trembling slightly.
Then again, being humiliated in front of so many people—he would lose face.
And because of that casual glance, the homeroom teacher decided to ask me to be Gary's deskmate, since I was the most easygoing person in class. I agreed without much hesitation.
And so, Gary and I became deskmates, thus beginning our tangled destiny.
