Chapter 3

I cried and asked him why he did this to me. By then, he was already a high-ranking executive at the rival company, and Jenny Jensen was in his arms. He told me arrogantly, "Serena, if you hadn't interfered, Jenny and I would have been together long ago. Who wants your condescending charity anyway?" I was stunned. So in his heart, my wholehearted support was nothing but shameful charity. That was when I realized Gary had fallen for Jenny at first sight back in high school. So that trembling on the podium the first time I saw him wasn't because he was hurt by Jenny's humiliation, but because of excitement from liking her. And because I stopped Jenny from bullying him and kept hanging around him, I became the obstacle between their love—the third wheel. Jenny snuggled into his arms, sobbing, "Gary, you don't know how much I've suffered. She threatened me not to get close to you, and then she had her dad bankrupt my family's company. I've been through so much." My eyes widened in disbelief. Back then, Jenny showed nothing but disgust toward Gary. And her family's bankruptcy was entirely due to her father's mismanagement—nothing to do with my family. Now that Gary had turned his life around, she could twist reality too. But Gary didn't bother to check if Jenny was telling the truth. He blindly believed her and blamed me instead. Under his attacks, even with my good degree, I was forced to do dirty, tiring jobs, barely scraping by. I truly regretted helping such an ungrateful wolf who had Stockholm syndrome. One day, on my way to work, a runaway car crashed into me, killing me instantly. In my final moments, I only wished for a second chance.
