Brandon clenched his fists so tight his nails dug into his palms. It felt like his heart was being torn to shreds. I acted like I didn't even notice how much he was hurting. I turned to Fernando and said, "Let's go." Fernando wheeled me straight toward the exit. Brandon stared after them, frozen. He tried to call out, but his throat felt tight. He couldn't make a single sound come out. The second we got in the car outside the terminal, I curled up into a tight ball.
