Anna screamed and nothing happened. I told her to breathe to relax and then after a few minutes Anna tried but still nothing happened and Anna fell unconscious because she didn’t have the strength to push anymore. She was drained. Eli stood up and tried to wake her, but Anna’s skin started to get pale. Alex and Eli looked at each other and nodded. Alex ran towards a stretcher and dragged it towards Anna’s bed. “What are you doing?” I asked. Eli looked at me, “Anna had doubted that our baby is half Earthly and half Eldarian so we might go for a cesarean section.” I yelled, “Cesarean, are you out of your mind? We need a proper doctor for this! She’s already lost a lot of blood.” Eli pointed at the stretcher. “Kai, we have been practicing cesarean section for months, and trust me, Alex and I can do it.” I had no clue what to do or what not to do, except to agree to whatever they were saying. Alex walked to my side and pointed at the dish full of equipment. Anna had made me memorize every single name. “Just go there and give us whatever we ask you to give us.” Anna trusted Eli to take major steps. The baby wasn’t coming out easy and Anna's life was on the line. I rush in to help despite my inner turmoil. My focus shifted fully to Anna's survival. I lacked the strength to console Eli if something happened to Anna. The anxiety rose as Eli and Alex successfully delivered twin babies. All the machines suddenly began to beep and Anna’s heart stopped beating. She looked dead. Eli stood still, overcome by sadness, wrath, a sense of loss, and betrayal. Alex was holding one baby and I was holding the other one and I told him to give her CPR. Eli worked tirelessly to save Anna and then I reminded him to inject her blood. Before Anna changed her blood group was the same as her brother's; however, when Eli had marked her and she transformed into a magnificent wolf, her blood type mysteriously altered. Eli injected Anna with his blood and within a second we found Anna’s weak heartbeat. Alex started cleaning up the babies and began hugging them. We put the babies in incubators. They would need special care as Anna had delivered before her due date. Eli was sitting next to Anna kissing her hands. Seeing Eli do things for Anna I could feel his emotions. Before meeting Valeria I never truly understood. I told Alex. “I’ll be in the mansion. Just call me if I’m needed.” Alex nodded, standing next to the incubators. I stormed out of the basement hoping things would be good for Anna and Eli. I rushed upstairs to the bar in the mansion and didn't bother to pour the whiskey into a glass I opened the bottle and gulped. I sat there for a while unable to think anything as anger and frustration coursed through my veins. I recalled my conversation with Valeria so I threw the bottle and it crashed to the floor. I was watching a broken bottle on the floor and then my eyes landed on Eli’s shoes. Eli asked, “What happened?” I refrained from answering his question. “How is Anna?” Eli didn’t answer my question and asked, “Is it related to Valeria?” I once again refrained from answering his question. “Is Anna awake?” Eli sighed. “Kai, we can do this allday. It’s better if you tell me what is bothering you?” I shook my head. “Right now Anna should be your priority not me and my problems.” Eli responded, “She is awake, but her body is drained so she needs time to rest and to heal.” I opened another bottle and gulped, “You should be with her.” Eli walked over to me and snatched the bottle. “You look strange today.” I looked at Eli. “Don’t you dare drink those babies and Anna needs you right now.” "How on Earth are you acting so concerned about my girlfriend and babies? You are usually irritated by my closeness with her.” I held out my hand for the bottle. “It's not like that.” Eli moved the bottle away, “Kai, you are not going to sip a drop until you tell me the truth.” "It's Valeria, my bond with her is torturing me. I want to be with her, I want to touch her, and it’s tormenting to see her leaving me every day after work. I can't sleep for fear of what will happen to her. I cannot bear the thought of her suffering as a result of my actions. I feel helpless. I have never felt that in my thirty years on Earth." Eli sat down next to me. “Did you tell her the truth?” I looked away. “How could I make her believe me when I didn't believe it myself until a list of girls died on my account?” Eli asked, “Did you even try?” I clenched my jaw, “I was so close, but then you called me and I had to leave her in the middle of our conversation.” Eli shot up his shoulders. “So tell her tomorrow. What is the problem here?” “If you told Anna that you were the same as me, would you have stopped approaching her?” Eli raised his brows. “Oh….” I nodded. “Yeah, oh.” Eli talked to himself while repeating what I was trying to get him to understand. So you want her to unlove you by herself. After a while, he banged on the counter and looked at me. “Why don't you use this Earthly tradition of the shapeshifter community to reject her as your eternal soulmate? I mean fated.” I asked, “Do you think it will work in my case?” Eli ducked his head. “There is no harm in trying.” I nodded, “Hmm.” Eli punched my shoulder. “Or you don’t want to sever the bond?” I slump my shoulders. "Elli, I'm not sure what I want. Something is burning inside me, and I think it is killing me." Eli stood up, “Only you can decide what you want, Kai.” I picked up a bottle and gulped. Eli continued, “Whiskey is not going to help you with any kind of decision-making.” I flicked my hand in dismissal because now I needed some alone time to think about his suggestion. “Get the f**k outta my bar.” Eli sensed it and smiled, “You are welcome.” I spent the entire night pacing in my room. My decision consumed my thoughts: I was preparing to sever our bond. The thought of living without her filled me with fear and anxiety. I kept considering the repercussions of my actions. What if she decided to leave her job? For the time being, at least, seeing her every day provided some comfort in an otherwise chaotic mental terrain. As the hours passed I was unable to shake the crushing anxiety. Every tick of the clock seemed to heighten my concerns. I'd never felt so weak or defenseless in my entire life. My usual sense of resolve and determination had all but vanished, replaced by a gnawing helplessness. The weight of my decision pushed hard on my chest making it difficult to think or even stay still.
