Chapter 7: The Reveal That Changes Everything I returned to the mansion the next morning. The house felt different. The air was heavier. Staff members moved quietly and avoided looking at each other. Julian’s voice carried from his study even before I reached the hallway. He was shouting into his phone again. When I stepped into the room, he was standing behind his desk with his tie loosened and his hair messy. Papers were scattered everywhere. Sophia sat on the edge of the desk, trying to look calm, but her fingers kept twisting the edge of her sleeve. Julian stopped talking the moment he saw me. “You,” he said. His voice was rough. “Where the hell were you last night?” I closed the door behind me and walked forward until I stood on the other side of his desk. I placed a single folder on top of the mess of papers. “I was somewhere safe,” I answered. “While you were busy trying to push me out, I was collecting these.” Julian stared at the folder like it might explode. Sophia slid off the desk and took a step closer. “What is that?” she asked, her voice sharper than usual. I opened the folder and turned it so Julian could see the pages inside. Bank records. Transfer documents. Names of companies that did not exist. And one clear photograph of him meeting with Victor Lang’s associate at a private club. Julian’s face went pale. “This… this is not what it looks like,” he said, but his voice lacked its usual confidence. I pointed to one of the pages. “These are the same accounts the people who killed my parents used to move money after they took everything from my family. You have been working with them for over a year. You just did not know who they really were.” Julian tried to grab the folder. I pulled it back before his hand could reach it. Sophia looked between us, her expression changing from confusion to anger. “What is she talking about, Julian?” she demanded. “What parents? What family?” Julian did not answer her. He kept staring at me like he was seeing me for the first time. “You knew,” he said slowly. “All this time… you knew what I was doing.” “I knew,” I said. “I have known since before we got married. I just needed to wait until you showed your true face.” Sophia’s voice rose. “Julian, tell her to stop. Tell her she is lying.” But Julian stayed silent. The color had drained from his face. For the first time, he looked small behind his own desk. I closed the folder and held it against my side. “The real game has only just started,” I told him. “You thought you were getting rid of me. You thought Sophia was going to take my place. But both of you walked straight into the trap I set years ago.” I turned toward the door. Sophia rushed forward and grabbed my arm. “What did you do?” she hissed. “What is going on?” I looked at her hand on my arm, then met her eyes. “You wanted my life,” I said quietly. “Now you can have what is left of it.” I pulled my arm free and walked out of the study. Behind me, I heard Sophia’s voice rising again, demanding answers. Julian still had not spoken. The only sound that followed me down the hallway was the heavy silence of a man who had finally realized he had been played from the very beginning.
