CHAPTER 18 Conal Sword in hand, Torian slowly rose from the throne. “That you made it this far speaks persistence.” He snorted a derisive laugh. “Though do you really think your presence here is because you’re some great warrior?” “Does it matter?” Conal shot back, taking measure of the man. “I’m here.” Torian descended the stairs in slow casual steps. Expecting to see him in royal garb, Conal frowned in surprise to see him dressed for combat, but then figured it was logical since Havengarde was under attack. And then he remembered this man was his father’s brother. Was there a resemblance? “You’re here because I wanted to see you for myself.” Torian’s voice was firm and strong. “Come closer and let me see you.” Conal strode half the distance to Torian, studying him as he approached.
