CHAPTER 5
Gwen
“Treason!”
Gwen heard the word reverberate off the walls of the tavern as she watched the guard with the sword crash into the wall. The table bounced off him and struck the floor and broke, sending splinters flying in every direction. The other guards were momentarily surprised, but they quickly recovered their wits and drew their swords. Gwen grabbed onto Kalan’s arm again and jerked him back just in time to keep him from being skewered.
“Blasted pigs!” Kalan shouted, trying to break free of her grasp.
“We need to go,” Gwen said darkly. She summoned her strength rune and pulled Kalan across the tavern. Two of the guards hurried after them while the other one helped his fallen comrade. Gwen was considering using her fire rune next, but the patrons of the tavern blocked
