“Let’s go,” I said to her after what felt like forever. We couldn't continue to stay here. Those rogues might come out and attack us anytime.
Annabelle nodded, “But where?” she asked, her eyes wide with concern. “We don't have anywhere to stay. You don't have anywhere to spend the night and it's all my fault. I'm so—”
“Don't!” I interrupted her firmly, palming her face. I could feel the faint scent of sweat and fear on her body.
“Don't ever blame yourself for anything that happens to me. You are not responsible in any way,”
Her eyes welled up with tears and I could see the guilt written all over her face.
“I know, Kate, but you wouldn't have been out here if you hadn't come out to search for me. You wouldn't have been—”
