The rhythmic sound of a sewing machine echoed softly through the tiny room as Cinta carefully guided a piece of royal-blue fabric beneath the needle. Her fingers moved with confidence, transforming plain cloth into something beautiful. Fashion wasn't just a hobby—it was the language of her heart.
"Cinta!" her mother shouted from the living room.
She quickly covered the dress with an old bedsheet before stepping outside.
"What are you doing in there?" Mrs. Okafor asked with folded arms.
"Nothing, Mom."
"I hope you're studying for your law entrance examination. Your father didn't work this hard just for you to waste your life sewing clothes."
Cinta forced a smile, though her heart ached.
"Yes, Mom."
As soon as her mother walked away, Cinta let out a deep sigh.
She had heard those words countless times. Her parents believed becoming a lawyer was the only respectable career. To them, fashion designing was nothing more than a childish fantasy.
But every night, when the rest of the house slept, Cinta secretly designed dresses that existed only in her imagination. She dreamed of one day seeing women walk proudly in clothes she had created.
She opened her sketchbook. Every page held elegant gowns, stylish blazers, and breathtaking evening dresses.
One day, she whispered to herself, the whole world will know my name.
The next morning, Cinta left for the market to buy fabric for a small sewing job. She carefully counted the little money she had saved from repairing neighbors' clothes.
As she passed a luxury hotel, a convoy of expensive black SUVs pulled into the entrance. Curious people stopped to watch.
"The celebrity Emmanuel is here!" someone shouted.
