Chapter 8

I woke up to a roaring blaze of fire. I screamed, someone grabbed me out of bed and hulled me over their shoulder. I started to cough. The smoke was so thick.... "Bane?!" "I got you, hold on!" I felt Bane shift under me and I ended up on his back. I couldn't see anything, the smoke was so thick. Before I knew it we were outside, members of the pack were scattered running around. I turned to see the castle up in flames, one more minute and I would of burned with it. Bane laid down and I slide off of him. He shifted back to his human form. "Everyone Evacuate, Now!" He shouted, the pack started to shift into wolves and started making their way out of the entrance. Bane grabbed my arm."Lucia, you need to go too." "What? Wha-What about you?"  "Ferrah hasn't made it out yet and neither has her baby. I need to look for them." "Let me help you-" "No!" He shouted. "Please Lucia, go with the others, I'll meet you at the meadows." My heart ached, I didn't want to leave him here but the others needed someone there as well." "Okay, Promise me you'll come back." He kissed my forehead. "I'll always come back to you Lucia. Never doubt that." With one last glance at me he shifted and ran off into the fire to find Ferrah and Quinn. I had to make myself turn away but god every fiber of my being wanted to stay with him but I had to think of the pack as well. I never thought this would be this hard, I loved Bane so much, but I also needed to the Luna the pack needed and that meant I had to balance it with them. I couldn't be selfish... I shifted and ran out into the night following the scent of the pack. I was closing in on them, the scent lead me towards a meadow, high on a mountain top. It wasn't that far, but far enough. When I stopped and turned around I could see the castle in flames and black smoke drifting up into the air. I felt so sick... "Lucia?"  I turned to see Reta, her white dress was now covered in ash. She was a full figured woman, she had a very caring soul. "Goodness girl, you look so pale..." Reta rushed to my side. I felt weak and I had no idea why. Lately it's been getting harder to get out of bed. "I feel...so tired..." I said as I leaned on Reta. She was a very strong woman, she held me up while helping me walk to a near by laid out blanket. I laid down on the blanket, Reta sat down next to me. She pressed her hand on my forehead. "Oh Hon, your burning up." "Really? I feel cold..." "I'm going to get you something that will help with that fever." Reta rushed off and left me on the blanket. I could smell the smoke near by. I don't know why but the smoke oddly smelled familiar. Like a distant memory...A sudden flash of images overwhelmed me. The images were of different woman that resembled me, then a sudden burst of fire behind them that resembled wings... I gasped as the images vanished. My stomach turned, I round over and threw up. I had never felt like this in my life. I felt a hand on my back and I flinched. "It's just me Hon, I made you something to bring down that fever. Here." I drank whatever was in Reta's concoction, but I immediately wanted to throw it up. "Oh my, your really sick..." "I feel like shit." I admitted. My body ached and my head was pounding.  "Rest here, The others are laying down their blankets for the night. We had this place prepared just in case something like this happened." I found myself nodding off. Reta tapped my cheek. "Try to stay awake Hon, I need that medicine to kick in before you try and sleep." I nodded. "Bane..." "I will tell him as soon as I see him Hon. I'm going to go get you some water." Reta left again and I looked towards the fire again and I saw the wings. My eyes winded as I realized what had happened. "Erebus..." Now everything made sense. In every life he said he had followed me but I could never remember them or him. He said I could never die and that I would just be reborn again. I knew in my gut that he did this. I had rejected him so now he wanted to start over by killing me again. In every life he had followed but I never accepted him. He lied about it... "Bane...Please get out of there." He probably couldn't hear me because of how far away I was but I just hoped he heard me. I felt so weak, I couldn't really do anything. I didn't even know how I got to be like this... Something rustled in the bushes. My heart jumped as I looked towards it. Then I saw the glowing eyes... I knew who it was. I didn't even have to see his face.  He had still followed me. "You never had Selene's love, you lied." I said even though my voice was weak. "No, I did have her love. You on the other hand, I got to too late." I glared at him. "So you were just going to roast me in a fire?" I couldn't believe this man. "It's not like you haven't been through it before love..." He said as if it was normal. "What? Your insane..." I tried to get up, but my body was refusing to move. I could hear Reta's footsteps, she came back with a canteen of water. When I looked back to Erebus he was gone. I swallowed hard. This was scary, I had a Insane God chasing after me and he has endangered my whole pack and Bane. I felt a familiar feeling in my gut, it burned with a blazing hatred. "Reta." "Yes?" "Do you know how to kill a god?" Reta's eyes widened. "What?" "You have spell books hidden don't you?" Reta was a collector of books. She kept whatever fell into her hands. That was probably way she was so smart.  "Uh, I think I might have some but what's this nonsense about killing gods? Are you having an Hallucination?" She asked her eyes filled with worry. I smiled back at her as the moon beamed down on me. "No, not at all."
