Maya POV
Maddox pushed the door open.
I flinched and instinctively shoved my phone behind my back.
“What is it, kitten?” he asked, narrowing his eyes at me. “Why aren’t you asleep? And… what are you hiding?”
“Nothing,” I said quickly, shaking my head.
He sighed. “Maya, it’s late. You should be in bed by now, okay?”
I nodded, forcing a smile.
“Or…” his lips curved into a half-smirk, “why don’t you come sleep in my room instead?”
My heart skipped, but I shook my head. “Oh, no. I’m fine here.”
“You sure?” His tone softened, almost coaxing.
“Yes, I’m sure.”
He studied me for a moment, then straightened. “Alright then. You should rest, babe. I’ve got work to attend in the morning.”
