It was morning again and I woke up the same way I always did in unfamiliar places with my senses already sharp and ears tuned to the soft creak of the roof beams above the distant rustle of wind across brittle grass and the even, shallow breath beside me that meant Willow was still asleep. The mattress wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
