My eyes snapped open witj terror flooding me so fast it burned. It was like being struck by lightning underwater as my entire body jolted. I froze as every single muscle seizei tight. My hand jerked away from between my legs like I’d been scorched. The silence that had once felt sacred now felt like a curse.
I didn’t move and didn’t even dare to breathe. My gaze locked onto the edge of the misted chamber where the steam curled thick and slow around the pillars. The air shifted and a faint breeze from a door that shouldn’t have opened. My heart beat so loud in my ears I could barely hear anything else. My limbs that were once languid and loose now felt like stone.
