Willow. The sun hadn't yet risen when we left like he had said dawn. It was just a gray and smoky light yawning over the horizon and moving on the trees in shadow. I could feel the dew settle against my lashes amd cold air biting the inside of my lungs every time I breathed. Damon walked ahead though he was never too far and never too close just enough that I could follow his outline without tripping over the gnarled roots crisscrossing the forest floor. It feels like he was doing it intentionallu so I don’t have to do it. We’d gone on foot with no horses and no wheels and no noise. Just boots against damp soil and the slow breath of warriors on a mission. A real mission that is not a simulated exercise or a punishment detail. This was blood bound and personal for both of us!.
