Did I hear him right?
Mate?
I can hear the blood rushing in my head. My mind is swirling.
It's the man from earlier. The one who couldn't stop staring at me. The one who sent an electric current through my body with only a glance. The one who set me on fire.
I should be terrified. He's bigger than all the other men I've seen tonight
But the way he's looking at me makes me feel safe... in a way I've never felt safe. I feel like I can trust him with my life. I've never felt this with Russ.
Guilt suddenly hits me in the chest.
Russ. I was supposed to be faithful, but...
I groan as the pain hits me all at once. I don't know how badly I'm hurt but I know I'm probably going to have some permanent injuries. I may even be crippled but I don't have much time to think about it
