Chapter 6: Business Rivalries(Peterson POV)

771 Words
After being locked up in an unknown location that seemed to be somewhere underground, I felt a deep sadness about not knowing what to do next. My life was on the line, and I no longer wanted to continue doing business with Julian, but I owed him money. The only way I could escape was to bring him down. I knew his hands were not clean; he had committed numerous murders and was involved in drug trafficking, one of the biggest crimes in Gaza Town. Meanwhile, my wife was still in the hospital, fighting for her life, and I was wasting away in this underground dungeon. My only hope was my daughter, Sophie, who is a journalist and could potentially help take him down. A few weeks ago, Sophie informed me about her plan to investigate Julian. I knew that attempting to nail him was dangerous, and I tried my best to convince her not to pursue it. However, she refused to back down. I realized I had to support her; she could indeed help bring him to justice. Sophie is a very intelligent journalist, and I had to send her to Julian, as this could determine my freedom. I had stolen from Julian while I worked for him, and now I was caught and paying the price. Sophie was unaware of my previous dealings with Julian, and all I could do was pray she completed her investigation and brought this man behind bars. The sound of dripping water echoed in the silence around me, and I could feel despair creeping in. I thought about my wife, lying in a hospital bed, fighting for her life. She had always been my rock, supporting me through thick and thin. The guilt of my choices weighed heavily on my heart. I had put her in this situation, and now I was powerless to help her. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm inside me. I needed to think clearly. My thoughts turned to Sophie. She was strong-willed and determined, traits that I admired in her. But I also feared for her safety. Julian was not someone to be trifled with; he had a reputation for being ruthless. The thought of my daughter confronting him sent chills down my spine. I remembered the last conversation I had with Sophie before everything went wrong. She had been filled with excitement about her investigation, her eyes sparkling with determination. "Dad, I have to do this. Julian is dangerous, and people need to know the truth," she had said. I had tried to dissuade her, to protect her from the dangers that lay ahead, but she was resolute. "I can handle myself, Dad. I promise I'll be careful." Now, sitting in this dark, damp cell, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had failed her. I had always wanted to protect her, but in trying to shield her from the truth, I had only put her in greater danger. The weight of my decisions was crushing, and I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes. I wiped them away angrily; I couldn't afford to show weakness. I thought about how I could reach out to Sophie. I needed to find a way to let her know the truth about Julian and my past. If she was going to take him down, she needed to be armed with all the information I had. But how could I communicate with her from this hellhole? I had no phone and no way to send a message. My captors had stripped me of everything, leaving me with nothing but my thoughts and regrets. Suddenly, a noise broke through my reverie. The door creaked open, and a figure stepped into the dim light. My heart raced as I squinted to see who it was. As the figure approached, I recognized him as one of Julian's men, a thug who had always given me a bad feeling. He smirked as he leaned against the wall, crossing his arms. "Look who it is, the big-shot businessman," he taunted. "How's it feel to be on the other side of the fence?" I glared at him, refusing to show fear. "What do you want?" I snapped, my voice hoarse from disuse. He chuckled darkly. "Just checking in on you. You know, Julian doesn't take kindly to people who cross him. You should be grateful he's giving you a chance to make things right." "Right," I scoffed. "By keeping me locked up like an animal?" He shrugged. "You made your choices, Peterson. Now you have to live with
