The heavy rain had stopped by dawn.
A thick mist drifted across the grounds of Blackwood Manor, wrapping the ancient estate in silence.
Nathan Blackwood stood at the entrance with Lena Brooks beside him. Behind them were Olivia Grant, Mrs. Eleanor Hayes, and two trusted security officers.
In Nathan's pocket rested the silver wolf coin.
The key that had waited fifteen years to be used.
---
Victor Blackwood met them at the manor's front door.
He looked older than he had only days before.
His eyes fell on the silver coin in Nathan's hand.
"So..."
"You finally found it."
Nathan stepped closer.
"You knew this coin was a key."
Victor nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"And you never told me."
"I was trying to keep you alive."
Nathan's voice hardened.
"Keeping secrets nearly destroyed this family."
Victor lowered his head.
"I know."
For the first time, the old man looked defeated.
---
Mrs. Eleanor Hayes led everyone through a narrow hallway hidden behind the library.
At the end stood a weathered wooden door covered in dust.
Above it was a carving of a wolf holding an olive branch.
Lena gently touched the carving.
"It isn't the same wolf."
Nathan looked closer.
"No..."
"This wolf isn't attacking."
"It's protecting."
Mrs. Hayes smiled sadly.
"That was your father's idea."
"He believed strength should always protect the weak."
---
Nathan removed the silver coin.
There was a circular slot beneath the carving.
The coin fit perfectly.
A loud click echoed through the hallway.
Ancient gears groaned inside the walls.
The wooden door slowly opened.
Cold air drifted out.
Beyond it lay a stone staircase descending into darkness.
---
The underground chapel was untouched by time.
Rows of wooden pews stood beneath a stained-glass window depicting a silver wolf surrounded by children.
At the center of the room rested a marble altar.
On top sat a small iron chest.
Lena walked closer.
"It looks untouched."
Nathan noticed something engraved into the lid.
Only those who remember kindness may open what hatred tried to bury.
Without hesitation, he placed the silver coin into another hidden slot.
The chest unlocked.
Inside were dozens of neatly wrapped documents.
A leather journal.
Several cassette tapes.
And a sealed envelope.
Nathan immediately recognized the handwriting.
Aaron Blackwood.
His father.
---
With trembling hands, Nathan broke the seal.
Inside was a letter.
He read aloud.
> "My dear Nathan..."
> "If you are reading this, then you have found the chapel I built to protect the truth."
Everyone listened in silence.
> "Trust your heart before your anger."
> "The person who betrayed me did not begin as my enemy."
Nathan paused.
His hands shook.
He continued.
> "Victor is guilty of many mistakes..."
Victor closed his eyes.
> "...but he did not murder your mother or me."
Nathan looked at his grandfather.
Tears rolled down Victor's weathered face.
For years...
He had carried blame that wasn't entirely his.
---
Lena carefully opened the leather journal.
Most pages described Aaron's charity work.
Then one page caught her attention.
At the top was a list of names.
Margaret Brooks.
Samuel Cross.
Agnes Carter.
Eleanor Hayes.
Every name belonged to someone who had helped Nathan.
At the bottom...
One final name had been crossed out with black ink.
Only the first name remained visible.
Richard...
Lena's heartbeat quickened.
"Richard Sterling."
Nathan looked over her shoulder.
His expression darkened.
"So my father suspected him."
---
Suddenly...
A hidden speaker crackled to life.
A familiar voice echoed through the chapel.
"Congratulations."
Everyone froze.
Richard Sterling.
"You've finally reached the place Aaron hoped you would."
Nathan looked around.
"Where are you?"
Richard laughed softly.
"You've spent fifteen years looking behind you."
"You never thought to look above."
Nathan glanced toward the stained-glass window.
A tiny camera blinked behind the colored glass.
They had been watched the entire time.
---
Richard's voice continued.
"Aaron believed the truth would save this family."
"He was wrong."
"The truth destroys families."
Nathan stepped forward.
"What do you want?"
"I want what should have been mine."
"The Blackwood Empire."
Victor gripped his cane tightly.
"You'll never have it."
Richard chuckled.
"I already have something much more valuable."
Nathan frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Richard's tone became icy.
"I have Daniel."
Silence crashed over the chapel.
Lena's face turned pale.
Nathan's fists clenched.
"If you hurt him—"
Richard interrupted.
"Then come find me."
The speaker went silent.
Only the echo of his laughter remained.
---
Nathan immediately searched the chest again.
Hidden beneath the journal was a folded map.
Unlike the previous one, this map contained a single red circle.
Beside it, Aaron had written:
"If Richard ever makes his move, he will return to the place where everything began."
Olivia unfolded the map completely.
"It's outside Ashwood City."
Mrs. Hayes gasped.
"I know that place."
Nathan looked at her.
"What is it?"
Her voice trembled.
"The old Sterling Glass Factory."
Victor's face lost all color.
"No..."
"It can't be."
Lena noticed his reaction.
"You've been there before."
Victor whispered,
"It wasn't just a factory."
"It was the place where Aaron discovered the betrayal."
Nathan slowly folded the map.
His eyes burned with determination.
"Then that's where we end this."
Far away...
Inside the abandoned Sterling Glass Factory...
Daniel awoke in a locked room.
His hands were tied, but the compass pendant still hung around his neck.
The metal door creaked open.
Richard Sterling stepped inside.
He smiled calmly.
"Good evening..."
Daniel looked at him with quiet defiance.
"Who are you?"
Richard's smile widened.
"The man who has spent fifteen years making sure you never remembered your real family."
