“DO YOU think Kurt is only making a joke when he offered help?” Genevieve asked seriously.
“He might be kidding only. He was just making fun of us.” Barbie was hurt when she realized what just Kurt did to her.
“Oh! Such a waste! He is good-looking and he seems to be kind.” Genevieve was dismayed.
“We cannot be sure of that. Who knows? It was just his façade. Remember what happened to us, the first time we met him?” Barbie recalled.
“Yeah, that’s true. I haven’t forgotten what happened then,” Genevieve said dryly.
“Okay, I have to go,” Barbie said before looking at her wristwatch. “It’s already five forty-five. Our rehearsal will start at six. So, I need to go. I had already asked permission from the student assistant that I will come back late.”
“Alright, you may go then. Take care,” Genevieve reminded her.
Barbie nodded. She took her bandurria before going out of the room.
“ARE YOU going home now?”
Barbie turned and looked where the voice came from. Their rehearsal had just end and she was busy putting her bandurria in its case. A familiar face was standing beside her when she turned around. He was one of the guitarists of the Rondalla.
“Ah, y-yes. I am about to go home,” she answered with a smile.
He smiled back. “You can call me Enrico. What about you? What’s your name?” he asked.
“Barbara or may call me Barbie.” Of all the names that can be given, its odd that her Mommy called her in a name suited for old people. She’s not comfortable with her name.
“Barbie? As in Barbie doll?” He was all smiles at her.
“Ah, that’s where my nickname came from. But I am not a doll. Barbie will look more beautiful if she becomes a human.”
Enrico laughed with all his heart.
She was amused looking at him. Did she just c***k a joke that made him laugh?
“You look corny. I should try introduced you to my friend. You will look good together,” he said when he stopped from laughing.
She raised her eyebrow. A friend? Who is that friend he is referring to? Why would they look good together?
“I don’t understand you.” She was confused.
“It would be better if you will come with me so, I can explain it to you.” He took her bandurria with him and started to walk away.
Barbie was forced to follow him. “I am staying at Dorm 5. What about you? Where do you stay?” she asked him while trying to catch up with his big strides.
He turned to her. “I am staying at Men’s Dorm 10. Your place is near.” He looked at his watch. “But it’s past your curfew. Did you ask permission from your house parent?” He looked worried.
“I just told the student assistant about this. Do you think that would be alright?” She suddenly got worried. She was too excited for their first rehearsal that she forgot to asked permission from the houseparent. The houseparent might reprimand her. It would just be alright if she will only be reprimanded. But what if she will be given punishment? Every occupant in the dorm who violate rules will be punished. Most of the time, the punishment will be cleaning the clogged CR, cutting the grasses in the garden, watering the plants, or cleaning the garbage dumping site. Although the latter is rarely given as punishment because it is the most difficult task. That is why she tries her best not to commit any violation. She doesn’t want to be punished because every punishment will last for about an hour.
“Well, it depends upon the rules and regulation of the dorm. But if your houseparent is considerate, it is just okay to ask permission from the student assistant. The important thing is you have asked permission. Besides, you won’t be able to return to the dorm if no one knew that you went out and came back past the curfew hours. No one would open the gate for you except when you have asked someone to wait for you. She could ask the student assistant to open the entrance for you,” he explained.
So, that’s it. Now she understands why many students have said that it is not easy to stay at the dorm. The rules are to be followed strictly.
“Oh, thanks! They have waited for me,” Enrico said cheerfully when they were outside the music room.
She followed what his eyes were looking at. She saw a group of young men waiting for someone. They were outside the building and sitting at the concrete benches. She also noticed some motorcycles and cars parked outside.
“Is there someone waiting for you?” she asked curiously.
“Yes, my friends from the basketball team are here.”
Basketball team? As in basketball players?
She felt nervous all of a sudden.
“They came from the basketball practice. Maybe they had arrived earlier. You may come with us and we will bring you to Dorm 5.” He walked ahead of her so, she had to hurry and catch up with him.
“Enrico! What took you so long? We were here minutes ago,” said the guy who came to meet them. “Hey! You’re also here, Miss Beautiful!” A surprised look was plastered on his face when he saw her. He was looking at her and to Enrico alternately. “I can’t believe this,” he said while shaking his head.
Barbie’s eyebrow furrowed. The guy looks familiar. But she can’t remember where she had seen him. He is also good-looking just like Enrico. But he is darker.
Had she met him before? Why did he seem to know her?
“It’s not what you think, bro. She is a new member of the Rondalla, that’s why we’re together. I promised to bring her home safely so, she came with me,” Enrico said with a serious tone. “If she can’t be accommodated in the car, then we might as well walk. But I’m not letting her walk all alone,” he added.
“Whoa, bro!” The guy raised his two hands. “That’s not what I mean, bro. But wait what will KB tells you when he sees her. I just don’t know how will KB react, if you will tell him about your plans.”
Enrico’s face became serious.
What are they arguing at? Why does it concern her? Who is KB? Does she know him? She is getting confused with the two guys.
“What’s wrong with the two of you? Don’t you have plans to go home? It’s already late. You are so annoying!”
They all turned to look where the voice came from.
Barbie’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets when she recognized the owner of the voice.
It was Kurt!
