I allow myself a few moments of pity, then force myself together again. I wipe my tears on the back of my sleeves and take a deep steadying breath.
“I know it won’t help, but they really do love you” he says softly.
“I know” I whisper. “It’s not even the adoption side that I’m upset about really” I say louder, needing to air it all aloud now. “I don’t really care about biology, it makes no difference. They’re no less my parents just because we don’t share the same blood. They’ve never, not for one day made me feel unwanted” I pause “But they lied to me, irrelevant of the reason, they lied! And now it’s put us in this position”.
