Chapter 11

Bella looked at the door of the entrance of the house in which the man that she had been following from the last few days. Medusa had said that it was time for him to pay and tell her his secrets. She was hell bent on making it tonight so Bella had to make sure that the entire grounds of the mansion were absolutely empty and there was no one else in the house. The moment when she had been able to know that he was planning on getting rid of his wife and the mother of his children Bella had said that there was no time to lose at all. Medusa landed on her paws softly on the terrace and then prowled on the ledge of the upper storey. These men were here sitting and drinking their fine things and were so damn privileged that they did not even bother to think about the ramifications of what they had done in their lives. It was like that they thought and they firmly believed this that they were going to get away with what they had done. They had no fear in their eyes and they had no fear of her coming back but then again they thought that she was a myth just like most other people. She knew that there were no kind of sensors on the upper floor and if she would be able to enter his house then it would be absolutely safe. Bella had said,” How would you even go there? This is madness…we need more time so that I can disable every single thing in the ground floor!!” Medusa had a strange kind of feeling towards that girl. She was protective and attentive of her and that was something Medusa had never been able to see and enjoy in her entire life, of all these centuries. True, she had blessed the Pharaohs and the Queens of the land of milk and honey because they worshipped her like the Goddess she was, the symbol of strength and their protection for the knowledge that she had. But this men were not worthy of being called men, they had broken into her tombs…not one….not two…they had broken into all four of her tombs and had taken away every single thing that she had held precious all these years. These centuries she had been awake and had been slumber, everything what went on outside in the world she remained unaware, because she was in hibernation, however she did not think that someone would dare to do something in the tombs of the sphinx. But what was done was done. Now it was time for retribution. She slightly opened the latch of the window and entered the room. This was the library where he spent his evenings and strangely Bella had said that there was some place behind the books where he disappeared sometimes as well. This was something which she knew…the secret gateways and the doors underneath the places where no one would even imagine that there were doors. However keeping the secret places in plain sight was still the mark of foolishness in her opinion. She found that the library was empty, so there was time for her to check out these secret places and also look at the books in the meanwhile. The library was one place in this human world where Medusa felt comfortable. True, that there were no scripts or scrolls any longer but still there were books and they were the most basic instruments of knowledge. There were lots and lots of books here and the smell of the dust mingled with the volumes which were kept here was something that made her feel at peace. She kept on looking at the racks of the books careful not to touch anything lest there be a trap or a spring but then she found that there was one book in the third row which was stuck in the middle and despite the movement of all the other volumes it was not moving at all. She smiled despite the situation. It was ingenuous how the modern men had been able to apply the laws of physics and making traps and secret caverns just like they had in the olden times. She pulled the book but found that it did not budge and then she pushed the volume and the door of the secret place behind the panel opened with a swing. And her eyes went towards the urn which was kept there. The one in which the piece of her broken stone heart was stored. The one which had the power of holding every single power in the world if they were all joined together. She was the only creature who had the knowledge to keep this heart together and stop every single person from becoming a slave to power. This was a curse and boon and she was the only single creature who had been considered worthy enough to take this responsibility. She did not dare touch the urn for the fear that she might not be able to control herself from taking hold of it but she had work to do before that. She needed to see who was this man who was so fearless that they did not bother about the wrath and the retribution of the sphinx. She waited patiently behind the seat where his gaze would be there but he would not be able to see him until and unless she showed him that she was there. Men could be blind even with their eyesight intact. They think that they know everything because they see everything so clearly but they were clearly unaware about the other mysteries of nature. The laws of the universe. Robert Masshill came inside the library and poured himself a stiff drink of cognac from the decanter that was kept on the shelf. There was nothing amiss and everything was absolutely like it should. He took a sip of the drink and let it burn down his throat before he took a seat and then opened the volume which was kept on the table. It was Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. He did not even look up at the beautiful creature who was sitting before him at the end of the room on the couch. “I have always thought that staying in the shadows is a good thing, you know Robert? But now, sitting here before a man and not being paid attention to, I can see what the women folk had been talking about all these years!!” said Medusa as the man looked up to find the voice of the woman in his library and his voice stuck in his throat when he found who was sitting there. “What happened? Cat got your tongue?” asked Medusa as she found that his hands were busily opening the drawers of his desk probably trying to find the gun that he had kept hidden there but she had already taken out the bullets from the device that was still there. He pointed the gun at her and shot blank rounds to look at her in fear which lodged in his throat making him silent. “Tsk tsk tsk…poor Robbie boy…what dreams he had…what ideals he had…what are the things you had thought you would do when you would come into power…but you know that in our land there was a saying…which started from the practice of murdering all the men who were disagreeably attached to power and then finally letting the only capable one emerge out of that anarchy. You Robbie boy, are an extremely bad egg as they say,” said Medusa as she came down from the couch and then sauntered forward. He was stuck in his seat and scared as s**t. He was pale as the ghost and so white that the sheets probably had more colour than him. There was the sound of the trickling of urine on the floor of the library and Medusa wrinkled her nose making a grimacing face at him. “You are one of those who show that they are strong men but can only show your strength when it comes to women who are weak and have not discovered their power. While here I am standing before you and ypu have pissed yourself. A grown adult male who never has seen a single war in his life or fought for the rights of his people is scared of a simple simpering women like me,” scoffed Medusa as Robert looked at her and said finally,” You are not a woman. You are a monster and a beast.” “True enough, true enough…I don’t disagree with you sweet heart. But then again in order to pull out the flesh of the monsters like you the world needs monsters like me. After all there needs to be someone who has to do the deeds and is not afraid of spilling a little blood for making the world a better place, is it not?” asked Medusa as she held up her paw and the talons shone in the light.
